13. Step By Step
Today is the first time they film at the same set.
(“Are you looking forward to tomorrow, Yunho-yah?”
“Me? Nope. Not at all.”
“Liar.”
“Wah, was I that easy to read?”
“Nope. Not at all. I bluffed.”
“Jaejoong-ssi!”
“Well, I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
“…so am I.”)
Jung Yunho has never felt so nervous since his debut stage. He knows tomorrow’s lines like the back of his hand. He remembers every single little comment and advice the director, the screenwriters and the older actors gave him. By the time he gets to the set, he feels ready and confident.
He knows what to do. And he hopes that’s enough to impress Jaejoong.
The lead actress sees him as he gets off the van.
“Yunho-yah! You’re just in time,” she calls with a bright smile. “We just finished the last scene.”
Yunho smiles at the older woman shyly. She’s always been so encouraging and helpful on set and off that Yunho had to admit he was developing quite a soft sport for the lead actress.
“You look amazing as always,” Yunho teases lightly. She smiles bashfully and gives him a playful push. “No I’m serious! Noona is always impeccably dressed.”
“Noona? Oh Yunho-yah,” she laughs. “What are you doing to this old hag?”
“Old hag? No way,” Yunho denies quickly. “I’m not joking!”
“Thank you,” she replies sincerely. “You are really polite, has anyone told you that? I originally thought you might have the idol snob attitude but you’re just like Jaejoong-ssi when he first started acting. Modest and hardworking.”
“Hm, would you rather me have the idol snob attitude?” Yunho jokes and puts on a haughty disdained face. She giggles and brings her hand up to her mouth to mask them.
“Ah the chemistry is good over here, just like how siblings should be.”
“Jaejoong-ssi!” she called out in surprise as the other lead has seemingly materialized out of nowhere. “I thought you were still on set!”
“We just finished that scene,” Jaejoong replied. Yunho felt his throat catch as Jaejoong’s eyes flicked towards him. Jaejoong smiles and greets, “Hello Yunho.”
Yunho untangled the knot in his throat and responds too enthusiastically, “Good morning, sunbaenim!”
“Aish, the chemistry here is good too,” the lead actress laughs. “Yunho-yah, do you remember that your character dislikes Jaejoong-ssi’s? I wonder how you’ll pull it off, seeing as you admire him so much.”
“It’s because I admire him so much that I can’t afford to mess up right?” Yunho responds confidently. More confident that Yunho actually felt but no one had to know that.
“That’s the spirit,” Jaejoong agrees and turns to return to the set. The lead actress follows quickly after hearing the producers calling for them.
Yunho breathes in and exhales out several times before joining the rest of the cast. He continues the slow and steady breathing even as the stylists touched up on his hair and outfit. He doesn’t break his rhythm even when the director calls for the take.
“You, why are you hanging around my sister?!”
“And who might you be?”
“Ah! Uh, he’s-he’s my younger brother…please don’t mind him!”
“Get your hands off her! I never gave her permission to date a pompous, mextrosexual guy like you!”
“When did I need your permission to date?!”
And at the end of the day, the director praised Yunho for the first time on his acting and the producer applauded his conveyance of emotion and lack of NGs. Of course, none of it meant more than when Jaejoong asked Yunho to go to dinner as congratulations for a job well done.
“First big scene and you kept your nerves together! Much better than me when I first started out. Oh gosh, you should have seen some of the NGs…”
Yunho sat in the passanger’s seat, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. He wanted to say that he’s seen Jaejoong’s first drama and all the making of the film’s. He wanted to say that Jaejoong had been amazing even back then, but he didn’t want to come off too stalker-like. He’ll take it one step at a time.
“Really? You couldn’t have been that bad!”
“Hn…Banjun dramas, oh god, its awkward to watch those now…”

A/N: I feel like this is a horrible filler...haha, but it's necessary for them to move forward. I've been having quite a bit of writing block (in terms of ending this segment) and I forced my way through it, not that I'm too happy with the results but I promise that the next drabble will get much...much more interesting ;)
