Well, I didn't get the job.  I'm surprised, but it was never a sure thing.  The final interview was a group of 30 people all being considered for 15 positions, who had been selected out of more than 300 applicants.  So I don't feel that bad that I made it into the 10th percentile but not the 5th.  Still, it sucks.  There was one other job I'd been ( Read more... )

As someone who is on the other end of the interviewing process right now - helping to select candidates and watching people come into to interview, I would say that, at least for our office, a lot of it is kind of arbitrary. All the people who get selected to interview have the skills and experience but from there a lot of it just seems to be if the boss then likes the person or not - do they fit the personality of the office. It's weirdly like dating - has so little to do if a person is good or bad, has so much to do with personal preferences.

It still does suck not to be chosen though. Good luck with your continued search!

Yeah, I got that impression too, but I was hoping to work that to my advantage since I hit it off both with the person managing the group interview and one of the hiring managers. Thanks for the thoughts, just have to keep on with the search and not let it get me down. : )
