One of the fun things about working at farmer's markets is that at the end when people are leaving, a lot of the stands will trade goods with each other.  It's midway between a barter and gift economy - much of the time someone will bring something over without actually asking for anything, and then they might come over for some bread later or they ( Read more... )

Mmmmm, sounds good! Would also be good with my favorites: butter beans. I like them because they are big!

I just discovered butter beans! They're tasty, and have an oddly exotic feel to me because I had them for the first time only a couple months ago. Are they related to lima beans?

My current farmer's market stew is celery and carrot with mixed "three bean salad" beans and smoked paprika. Yum yum.

SMOKED PAPRIKA! Wow! I wish I'd brought Steve's Mom's recipe for Chicken Paprikash! It's a bit difficult, but maybe we can make it together one day. I think it is Steve's favorite dish in the world! When we were in Hungary, he ordered it at every single restaurant to find one that was made the in the style of, as as goo as, his mother's. (We found one that was in the right style, but, honestly, none were quite as good.)

I discovered Butter Beans when we went to Yellowstore Park (as David about the grisley bear), and they served it in a no-chile chile called Roosevelt Beans. I think they are enormous lima beans, but they don't have the same flavor which is good because I hate lima beans.

Oh, I've never had Chicken Paprikash, would love to try someday. : ) It makes me think of Dracula (the original book), since the main character was eating paprika chicken on the train to Transylvania...
