My husband and I went to the Doctor Who Season 6 premier yesterday in New York city. I had a fantastic time. It was awesome!
I use a wheelchair so I emailed the theater to ask about ramps and stuff. The manager offered to hold tickets for us as long as we got there by 5pm. Please don't hate me. I feel a little guilty. (I didn't ask him to do it he offered). We had to put our kids on the school bus and left right way and went straight there. We got there at 2pm(construction,traffic and then trying to find gas in Manhattan before we ran out and then find a place to park). There were people who camped out over night to get in cinema 1. I felt kind of bad. But I heard Matt, Arthur, and Karen cleaned out all the Manhattan DunkinDonuts to the tune of 300 donuts and gave them to the fans who had been there all night. *really what kind of stars do that* I am so in awe of these guys! They are really nice people!
Anyways we found a FREE parking space a half block from a police station 5 blocks from the theater. It had diagonal parking spaces so we had access to the back of the van(to get the wheelchair in and out). Does that even happen?
When we got there I ooked for the guy I emailed. He had told me that the handicapped seating wasn't going to be available in the same cinema with the "talent". When we got there he said things had changed. He had a spot for us in the 1st cinema he thought we might like. I have to admit I had probably the best seat in the house. Please don't hate me. From where I was sitting if I turned my head to the right and looked over my shoulder I could see Steven, Matt, and Arthur. When they were doing the "When I say Doctor you say Who" thing, I looked over my shoulder and Steven Moffett was smiling with the biggest grin. Like the cat who got the cream to use the British saying. Also when we went in we had to interupt the actors who were sitting in the handicappd access hallway. As we went past them they saw our shirts. I made t-shirts with iron on transfers, mine had "the 11 doctors" and my husband's had an "angels have the phone box". They all said they thought our shirts were cool and they loved them. I should have had Matt autgraph his likeness on my chest but my husband was right behind me
I really liked the episodes. They raised a whole lot of questions and were fodder for the conversation on the trip home( 5 hour drive). My husband and I are both looking forward to seeing the episodes again and then the rest of the season!
After we went past them my husband turned around and took this photo. I wish I'd stopped and talked to them but I felt like I was interupting something and I was a little star struck. I did say thank you when they complimented our shirts.
Don't look too close at my chubby face and gray hairs(you can see the few I have-but not bad for 49 years old I have to say) But I wanted to show you how close I was.
