Bridemaid questions

For all those on my flist that have experience beinging in a wedding in any capacity: how early I should I start woking on getting (ordering, try-ons, altering, etc.) a bridesmaid dress?  My only experience on being a bridesmaid was when I was 14 (over 10 years ago now) and had just been run over by a car a few months prior so I don't quite ( Read more... )

Well the wedding is in July. And I already have it done to a few styles, even. And thank goodness it's my older brother's wedding then. Thanks for the advice.

Depends on the store... They'll normally say at least 3 months lead time for any order. (Unless you're planning on changing sizes in which case they might suggest you order 2 months in advance... check with the store). Also... they might tell you to order all the bridesmaid dresses at the same time so that they're all in the "same dye lot", unless the bride cares I've never seen it be a problem.

Tips? Ask the bride if she's expecting you to perform any "duties". I didn't really need my bridesmaids to do anything other than show up, but some brides have their 'maids stuff favors or be in charge of one thing day of. Making sure you know what's expected of you early helps make sure there aren't any hurt feelings for either person.

Ordering at the same time isn't an option as i'm 300 miles south of the rest of the others and good idea about asking about duties. Thanks!
