The Flint Manor Christmas party was not Theo’s favorite event at Flint Manor. I mean, he enjoyed a good party as much as anyone but prepping for the party always stressed him out so much. He just couldn’t enjoy it as much as he’d like

"Oh is that for me?" Pasha asks as she takes his champagne. "Thank you!"

"You're welcome, Aunt Pasha," Bolly says, because you have to roll with these things, and also because he can now say, "I'm helping everyone keep their drinks up!" which will explain away all future glasses he has in hands at any point.

"They know already," Bolly says, thinking he is lying because he hasn't yet worked out that he has a sobriety charm on him, which means all the champagne he has been sneaking is basically just sparkling grape juice when he drinks it. He nods solemnly as he adds, "The best help is the help nobody notices or talks about."

"I can dance!" Bolly immediately volunteers.

"Yeah?" she pretends to size him up. "I suppose I could do worse. Come on then." Maybe it'll keep him out of trouble for a bit.

"Sweet!" By 'dance', Bolly really means, 'I can manage a basic box step', but he only has to look at his feet sometimes and he's pretty good at picking out the beat and staying mostly in time. "I heard the Falmouth Falcons are looking to trade a chaser."

"I heard that too," Pasha doesn't mind. She's just enjoying time with her nephew. And it certainly better than dancing with some gross old man who'd try to grab her bum. "I heard they're already in negotiations but I haven't heard with which team.

"The Tornadoes lady think it's them, but the beige dude whose wife is cheating on him thinks it's going to be an international trade, and the really tall bald dude with the estranged son thinks the Heidelberg Harriers are about to make a play for top of the European Quidditch League, so it might be them."
It is amazing how many adults seem to think kids just can't hear or understand them when they talk.

"Hmm, well, all of those real possibilities. But I think it's probably the Tornadoes. That's what Ryan thinks and he usually knows these things. Michael agrees so...probably the Tornadoes. "
Pasha understands that better than anyone. She grew up as an only child who's parents thought she was stupid or something. She heard way more than they ever knew. Pasha is the last person to underestimate children hear and understand.

"Really? Cool. I wonder what Mister Beige would give me to know that," he says, mostly joking. For one thing, Bolly would probably need to learn Mister Beige's actual name before he tried anything. "Do you know what's going on in Germany too?"
Reply
"Germany? No," she said. "What have you heard?"

"When tall bald dude was talking about Heidelberg stepping up, purple feathers said that the Koblenz Kobolds also have a whole new training regime. And the Sports Stadium guy was talking to the Nimbus lady, and he said that the Berlin Blizzards are upgrading their pitch, and she said that won't matter because they have a custom order in for new brooms for the Berlin Bombers."
(Berlin has had two Quidditch teams since the war against Grindlewald divided the city, and maintain their animosity despite the rest of the city's eventual reunification some decades later.)
"It sounds like the whole of Germany think they have a chance at racing up the EQL for some reason."

Pasha makes a face, she hadn't heard any of that. This kid is something, in one night he picked up gossip it would have taken her weeks to hear. Shen looks around trying to see if she can locate Michael or Kieran. "That's...interesting. I'll ask your pop about it. Or Keke. Or Fatima. One of them will have heard at least some of this."

"And let me know what you found out?"
