dogsunderfoot  and I were talking about the floods and devastation in Australia and thinking about friends who live there.  We want to do something in their honor and were wondering if there was a fandom effort afoot to help.

starlite_gone has provided more information.  There is an auction going on at qldfloodauction  and bidding continues through January 26th.

oh excellent! Thanks for checking that out. I was looking for a com similar to Help_Haiti for the floods and didn't see one do you know if it will be just fandom or if I could offer crafts too? I've still got a scarf or two i can auction off ^^

No more info yet but I believe it will be similar to help_haiti and I'm watching the community.

Yes, in addition to what I donate privately, I've been active in four or so LJ fandom efforts to raise money around the world.

We all do what we can. help_pakistan did a pretty good job at not only raising money but awareness too.

I know there are at least three people on my lil ol' friends list who live in Australia.

I just wanted to say thankyou. Thankyou so much for doing this and raising awareness about this. Most of my family is up in QLD. I can't get in contact with some of them, and every day we wait by the phone hoping to hear news.

I feel like crying everytime I see fandom come together to raise money for people, and this is no different. So thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.

Your very welcome! I didn't want to mention names without permission but remuslives23, who is Australian, has just made a post. I know Lj user=lyras> who lives near Sydney posted about the situation about a week ago. If you want to make a post at your LJ, it will help to boost the signal.
I'm going to talk to ceredwensirius to see how we want to publicize this in Friday's issue of the rs_prophet.
