Ouch :-/
I can relate, somehow. Well, for me it's a little different. But I was always a bit annoyed by the students around me who got all their money from their parents and didn't have to work of just had to work to earn extra-cash on the side, you know, money just for spending.
Did you ask M., if she at all understood that you don't have money?

Speaking for the devil aka 'the other side': it's really difficult to understand the concept of having 'no' money for someone who never had to go without. Whenever I've heard it in the past: a. I thought someone meant that they exceeded their monthly budget but still had funds on their saving account; b. wanted to offer them money as a loan and could not quite get how does that doesn't solve anything on a long term basis... Okay, so I smarted up eventually but it did not come naturally to me and led to lots of frustrating moments for my friends who had financial troubles at times and for myself. What I want to say is: Yes, they should try to listen to you more carefully, try understanding your position, but if you also see that they don't really know what you are talking about you should try not to get offended by them. I hope it gets easier for you! Hugs!
