nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these courageous couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.

So goes the postal carriers motto. Books, however, seem to be a different matter.

Over the past few weeks, Sean and I have been doing a bit of ordering from Amazon.com. Nothing outlandish - maybe three, four books a week. And twice -

I'd hate to see that carrier have to work here, where all the mail slots are attached to the houses and the carriers park, load the mail in giant knapsacks and walk from porch to porch.

Seriously. Granted, this is a fairly rural route, but I don't think a mail carrier has ever had to actually carry mail here.
