Game: Sunnydale OSI
Who: OSI personnel
Where: Wouldn't you like to know?
When: 1/8/98
Rachel settled in her place at the meeting, looking glum. She'd been informed of the death of her potential. That, and Cassie's 'brain cancer' were weighing heavily on her mind.
Eddie was already there, looking unamused and reading through a stack of papers.
Tony was present, also looking unamused, though likely for different reasons. He was keeping silent and observant.
Wesley walked in, unaware of recent happenings with his own problems conflicting lately. Throw in a Christmas vacation, and he was completely out of the loop.
Tamara was sitting by her brother, looking bored. She didn't like meetings.
Daniel entered the room, normally not present for these kinds of meetings since he only had minimum contact with any Slayer or Potentials. He was rather curious as to why he was required to attend.
Vito was sitting at the table, trying to look official; he was stressed and worried, but he hoped he was covering it well.
Kit skittered in, checking the clock. "Hah! I am not late. Suck that, time."
"I'm glad to see that you defeated father time, Kit," Wesley joked.
Martin sat near Rachel, hoping that the hand on he placed on her shoulder was somewhat comforting.
The archer grinned at Kit, playfully punching him as he sat down.
Morrigan was leaning against a wall, a grape Tootsie-Pop tucked into her cheek.
Kit waved to Wesley. "How was your trip back to the land of the boring?" He grinned at Daniel as he punched his arm.
MJ showed up to the meeting, and quietly took a seat near Morrigan.
Sera walked in a few seconds after Kit, and then sat down kind of on her own.
"Unforgettable," Wesley said, not saying anything more about it for the moment.
Carmen was at the meeting as well, with a notebook in her hands, so that she could take notes
Danny walked in quietly, and surveyed everyone before standing in the corner. So these would be her coworkers...
Emily walked in, and had a seat at the table, looking a bit preoccupied.
Franklin Lee showed up with his personal assistant running behind him. He surveyed the collection and then sat near the front of the room.
"Is everyone here?" Franklin asked, turning to address the room.
Rachel nodded to her father as he stepped in, a polite greeting.
"I think we're as here as we're going to get," Kit said.
Daniel nodded, fun and joke time over, a serious expression descended his visage.
Franklin turned towards the poor woman who had gained the job as his PA. "Please make sure to take complete notes this time, so that we can share them with those who didn't make it on time."
"Now," he turned back towards the assembled people. "I think this is the time for everyone to give us a sitrep on all current situations. Who wants to go first?"
Vito raised his hand.
"Yes, Mr. Marchese?"
"Suckup," Kit muttered. Everyone knew going first was the suckup position.
Daniel punched Kit again, this time it was not in a joke manner. A "get serious" look was glared meaningfully at his friend.
Danny looked at Vito, then at Kit and Daniel. If she was going to be working with these people, she would have to learn as much as she could about them.
Kit gave him a pained 'but meetings are boring' look, before settling down.
"Okay, two fairly serious situations ... One, the murder of Chantarelle, and two, the crimes and disappearance of Dr. Browning. They may be connected, not certain yet. Chantarelle was found by the protege of Mr Bothwell, or, rather, part of her was found. Her musculoskeletal system and organs were replaced by red corn syrup, and her aura was missing."
Wesley had obviously been out of the loop by the look of shock on his face when all of this was announced. That would be the last vacation for him for a while.
Kit tensed a bit. This was something he knew about- and actually cared about. Points for the Maffia Man.
Rachel looked visibly sick, and clutched Martin's hand under the table.
Martin squeezed Rachel's hand as an offer of support. Sera look vaguely disturbed, but Franklin's face remained set.
The archer looked a little green around the edges, scribbling this bit of information down in a little notebook he brought with him. That he had learned through Kit, was not a pleasant experience.
MJ's expression didn't change, but his hands clenched a little. The two situations were both very, very bad.
Eddie nodded along with what Vito said, but didn't interrupt.
"Her entire internal structure was replaced by red corn syrup?" Franklin asked for clarification.
Kit nodded. "Michael found her. He said she had two glass eyes that fell out when he touched the body- and the rest of it deflated and splattered him in a sticky red liquid. At the time, he thought it was blood.
"Mr. Lancaster," Franklin turned to address Eddie, "would there be a reason that Dr. Browning would do this, other than complete sociopathy?"
Danny figured looking sick would make her look weak, so she continued standing in the corner. Corn syrup never had been appealing to her, and now- the thought of it appaled her.
"We have a rather extensive report on the extent and methodology of Dr. Browning's illicit research activities," Eddie clarified, "and the short answer is no. It doesn't match his methodology, and it doesn't match his treatment of either living people or corpses."
"I have a full report on that situation, when you would like to hear it," Eddie concluded. His accent was surprisingly light at the moment.
"Ewwwwww," Tamara could be heard to say, quietly, by her brother. "What sick bastard would do that?"
"Which situation?" Franklin went for clarification. "The Chantarelle situation? Or Dr. Browning?"
"Dr. Browning. Although the forensics team has a report on the SIT remains, as well."
"Okay," Franklin looked down for a second, gathered his thoughts. "Distribute the Dr. Browning material to Research and the leads of the Initiative. I don't want any other agency getting involved in the search for him."
"We need him profiled, and a copy of that sent to all department heads and investigators that we have in the area. As for the forensic report on the SIT - did that creature down in the morgue look her over?"
Speaking of Dr. Browning ... a knock sounded on the door, but sadly it wasn't the man they were speaking of but a hesitant looking Nevada Lyle who poked her head through the doorway.
Tamara headed over to greet Nevada "Hey..."
A bit of relief flooded her face as Tamara greeted her and brief smile curved her lips at her teammate before she silently entered the room and sat beside Tamara and Tony.
"Understood," Eddie nodded. "And yes/
"Okay. Good." Franklin seemed to relax, just a tad.
"Agent Lyle, perhaps you could enlighten us more about Dr. Browning?" Franklin was intentionally putting Nevada on the spot. His voice had remained professional and level - no mocking, no intentional intimidation.
Nevada tensed at the sound of her name, feeling eyes on her. After keeping her eyes on the table for a second longer, she looked Franklin straight in the eye and asked in an uncharacteristically quiet voice, "What do you want to know?"
"Anything you can share with us." he answered.
Nevada gripped the edges of her chair, taking a deep breath as she looked around the room and letting it out, "Nick--I mean Dr. Browning is methodical. He'll repeat experiments to get as much de-detail as he can." Dropping her gaze to the table,
she continued, "He comes off as a likeable enough guy, but he'll do anything to get the results he wants."
"He's notoriously deceptive," Vito said, nodding slowly. "I've spoken to another of his subjects, someone who knew him back east."
Tamara muttered, "He kept staring at my boobs when he was examining my jaw."
Vito thought that was probably more interesting to look at, anyway, but he didn't say so out loud.
"You got her to talk to you?" asked MJ, to Vito
"Well ... yes and no. She's a friend of my cousin, so she said a little bit to me, a little bit to Nica, Nica filled me in. Becky's not really big on passing along information," he said.
"I have spoken with her as well, if you are referring to Rebecca Blackmoon," Eddie added for clarification purposes.
Vito nodded. "One and the same."
"The details of that conversation are included in the case file," Eddie added.
"I'm ... " Nevada cleared her throat, shifting her seat uncomfortably, "... I'm sorry I can't give you more details. He ... he, uh." The tiny OSI member pressed her lips together do they wouldn't tremble, "He kept me pretty out of on drugs. Other than the reason of keeping any of us compliant, I think he was afraid I'd hurt him."
"Would you mind explaining the period in which your voluntary participation in his experiments became involuntary?" Eddie was curious on that point.
Nevada looked to Eddie and replied, "A few weeks before Thanksgiving."
"What caused that?" Eddie asked.
"I had run into Becky and Nica at Sid's diner. Since Ni--" Nevada stopped and started over, "I mean Dr. Browning had acted kind of weird at a previous session so I asked questions. Becky warned me that Dr. Browning wasn't all he seemed. The next time I saw him, I questioned him about it." She paused, "Thats when he ...tranqed me while my back was turned."
Kit shook his head. "That was dumb."
Vito pictured the old knight from Indiand Jones and the Last Crusade saying: "She chose poorly!"
"Pardon my language, sir, but no shit." Nevada suddenly retorted, "I was stupid, an idiot, foolish, and god knows what else. Don't think I don't know that, sir."
Danny just listened quietly, and wondered what she had done to end up here.
Wesley listened intently, taking notes on everything.
"At least you're still alive," Vito said. "That's more than some of his subjects can say, so ... don't beat yourself up too much about it. I think everyone's going to be on their toes, from this point on."
Carmen took notes, and tried not to feel guilty. She knew something about him was off, but she never knew what.
Daniel nodded in agreement, jotting down a note. "Er ... are other personnel being looked into at the moment?"
Kit commented, "I didn't do it."
"I don't think that we have anyone else under investigation at this present time," Rachel replied.
Eddie nodded. "One is more than enough."
"There have, however, been some personel shifts-" Rachel said, transitioning into one of the next orders of business to let poor Nevada off the hook. "Mr. Giles has been called back to Enland on a family emergency, so command of Servator has been shifted to Martin Fisher."
"And there will be a change in our primary intitiative team leadership as well," Rachel said, reading from the report that was before her. "Command is shifting Riley Finn to be in charge of the beta team, while Tony DeMarco is being asked to take command of the alpha team."
"Woo! Go Tony!" Tamara said.
Tony nodded politely, and gave his sister a 'no doing the wave during a meeting' look.
Carmen smiled when she heard that Tony would be command.
"We also have several new Initiative team members coming in," Rachel continued, "to increase our ranks."
"Always a good thing," Vito said.
"We are also expected to be recieving a few more potentials," she continued grimly, "including some from other countries as our test potential import is working out well."
Relieved to be out of the spotlight, Nevada smiled at Tony and nodded her congratulations, "Good work, Tony."
"Thank you." Tony nodded.
"We also have a new project in development- Project Redemption. This will be taking those who are usually considered monsterous, or who have had issues in the past with various powers, and placing them in a special supervised program to allow them to become productive members of the team and society," Rachel said.
"We have a few canidates for this program already- and if anyone knows of any likely additions, please let us know. This project will be a joint effort between all the divisions, and as such, it is very important that we work together to ensure its success," Rachel said.
"We are looking forward to tracking its progress," Eddie commented.
"Is this like the short bus of OSI divisions?" Kit said, amused.
Wesley knew of someone, but didn't want to 'recommend' her until he could possibly talk to her about it first. No one wants their secrets aired out for all to hear without their knowledge.
Eddie thought, No, Mr. Bothwell, that would be whatever division is responsible for assuring that you work.
Daniel stomped on Kit's foot, but tried very very hard not to give a laughing snort at Kit's ... logic.
"We will be having some personel come in for that as well," Rachel said, ignoring Kit. "And Jacques Renoir is going to be transfering from research to work specifically on this project."
"I think we should recommend William," Tamara said to Tony.
"Do we have a list of candidates?" asked MJ
"Well, go ahead," Tony replied, bemused.
"Well, so far we are starting with some existing employees - a sharpei demon named Clem who has been doing some food service work, a ...whatever he is, exactly - creature named Dwight who works in the morgue. And there's one test case being brought in who ... well, has some strange circumstances," Rachel began.
"He tests as human, and he has spent the past five years in a mental institution," she said. "He has some supernatural abilities which seem to register as.. holy in nature."
"By what are we quantifying them as 'holy'?" Eddie asked. 'Holy' and 'demonic' always seemed much the same to him.
"Like a faith healer or something?" Wesley asked, confused.
"The ability to consecrate and heal by laying on of hands, for one..." Rachel said. "The problem, however, is that he is mentally unstable- he has been heavily medicated following an incident in which he tried to commit suicide by firebombing a church he was inside of. Needless to say, it was an unsuccessful suicide."
Eddie shrugged. All the same to him.
Tony hmed. "So he's a danger to himself and others, in other words?"
"Well, they're hoping he can be controled," Rachel said. "They're bringing in a special handler devoted to the task of keeping him in check."
"And trying to harness his capabilities, I would suppose..."
Tamara raised a hand. "I have someone that you should ask to join the program. His name is William - William the Bloody, if you want to get technical. He's a vampire - but he's a good person. And I think he could use some purpose in life.. y'know, direction. He wants to get back to humanity, and this might help..."
Tony added, "He's already been helping to provide information on supernatural activities to this organization as an informant."
"Do you have a plan for some of the students at the High School?" asked MJ, since that seemed to be his area of expertese
Eddie commented, "The Sunnydale Academy of Occupational Advancement is set to begin construction beginning in February, as far as a formalized program is concerned," Eddie commented. "Under the circumstances, though, I have heard that Command is thinking of starting things early..."
"With what, exactly?" Daniel piped up, pencil poised.
"Actively tracking the number of people who are 'involved' through chain-of-connection or otherwise in activities of interest, and actively encouraging them towards training and developing with Servator division's guidance." Eddie chuckled. "Beyond that, though, I do not know specifics."
"Is there any other orders of the business to be addressing?" Eddie asked.
"I think we hit all the major stuff," Vito said.
"Alright- then we can consider this dismissed. There's some refreshments for those who want them in the reception room next door," Rachel said.
"Ah, the best part of meetings," Kit said, getting up to head for the snackies.
Eddie packed things up, apparently planning on heading out.
Tony chuckled, and got up to make with the snack acquisition before his sister could eat all the good snacks.
Danny headed over to Tony and Tamara. "Hi... I'm a new team member. Danny Grayson."
Vito snagged a bagel-pizza and a soda and settled in a chair.
Daniel followed after Kit, unusually quiet.
Nevada stood as well, hesitating between staying or leaving.
MJ grabbed two cups of punch, and some snacks before returning to Morrigan. He handed her some snacks and a cup of punch, then settled near Vito. "How's it going man?"
"Aside from the mayhem and murder, not too terrible," Vito said. "Though that's a pretty big aside. How're things with Morrigan?"
Morrigan was over by the snack table, and not within earshot.
Tony offered his hand to shake Danny's. "Always good to have more people on the team."
"She's fine... worried about stuff, but otherwise she's good." replied MJ
Eddie quietly paused by Carmen. "Messy business, no?"
Danny had a very firm handshake. "Nice to meet you too."
"Hi! I'm Tamara," Tamara said to new folk. "Nice to meet you."
"Very messy." frowned Carmen "All of this... but I will see what I can discover to help."
Vito nodded. "As are we all," Vito said. "And ... yeah, like I said, I really hope everyone gets really careful for a while."
"Hey Tamara." Danny smiled, and shook her hand "Nice to meet you too."
"How're things at your compound?" asked MJ "And I warned my class... I hope they take it seriously."
Nevada decided she didn't want to be there anymore and headed for the door. She could introduce herself to anyone new later.
"Not bad," Vito said. "Things haven't changed much ... still have a pretty full house."
Daniel nabbed a cup of coffee, thought after an "interesting" meeting such as this, the servator would have prefered a nice Guiness but sadly it wasn't policy to have such things lying about.
Morrigan was poking around the beverages. "Who do you have to know to get a damn Guinness around here?" she muttered.
The archer looked up from his notes and blinked, glancing to Kit before his gaze went to Morrigan, "Most of the pubs in town carry it."
Eddie nodded. "Remember, be careful. Bad things happen to everyone." He turned, and headed outwards.
Morrigan laughed. "But those are out there, and I'm in here," she said with a grin.
Tony nodded and started packing up a plate of carrot sticks, celery sticks... and low-fat ranch dip.
"Carmen, would you like me to get you something?" Tony called.
"Yes." called Carmen, getting up, and heading over. "Oh, that looks healthy..."
"Bor-ing," Tamara said, and collected some brownies and a soda.
Kit collected some cookies, and a coffee to dip them in. "So that wasn't so bad. At least it didn't go on and on and on..."
Danny grabbed some chips and a soda. Then, she grabbed a brownie. She waved to a random person.
Daniel chuckled and shrugged, "That's certainly true. I could use a nice Guiness." Sneakily, the man nicked a cookie from Kit and wolfed it down.
Tony offered it up to Carmen. "Want some?"
"Sure." Carmen smiled, and grabbed a celery stick. Mmm... low fat ranch.
"Ick. YOu guys have problems," Tamara said, as she tore into a brownie. "I love you anyhow, though. How's things been?" Not that she hadn't talked to Tony like twice a day since moving out or anything.
"Mmm.. beer," Kit considered that. It'd been a while. "Eh. Damnit, I don't knwo what's wrong with me, but I can't muster the urge to drink anymore."
Tony chuckled. "Hey, we're healthy. At least that's something." He leaned in to feed Carmen a carrot stick.
Danny's father had told her that a real man can drink his weight in beer. Danny hadn't tried it, but she wondered if some of these others had.
"There's nothing wrong with you, mate." Taking a sip of coffee, Daniel added, "We should head 'round to one of the pubs this weekend. Well, if there isn't work stuff to do."
"This town has good pubs?" asked Danny. Nothing like hanging out with the guys. She wouldn't drink much, but usually bars had a game or two on. She had to keep up with her football. Superbowl was coming up.
Kit nodded. "Well, yeah. We could do that." When was the last time he and Daniel hung out proper? That wound do him some good. Kit grinned a bit, and looked at the girl who wanted to hang out with them. Daniel was single, after all.. and Kit was reasonably sure he wasn't gay. Not to mention.. Daniel. Danny. Too funny.
"Hm... well, how about my buddy Daniel and I show you some of them?" Kit offered. Maybe he could even get Sera to come along with them... hm...
"Awesome." said Danny. Football rocked. "Superbowl is coming up, so I gotta catch up on my football."
Tamara watched her brother and Carmen together. She thought they were a cute couple, really. Right down to the carrot stick.
Carmen enjoyed being fed a carrot stick. She seemed really happy with Tony.
"So have things been working out okay?" Tamara asked Carmen.
"We miss you a lot." said Carmen "But, they're ok."
"They could be much worse. How are you doing? Are -you- okay?" Tony asked.
"I'm fine," Tamara said. "Been apartment hunting and crashing at Gerald's, you know. The place right down the road from the house does have vacancies."
Tamara looked to Carmen. "Maybe you could come with me and check some of them out? I kinda want to make sure my new apartment doesn't have any.. old tennants, you know?
"Alright." said Carmen, nodding "When did you want to do that?"
"How about Monday?" Tamara said. "Monday afternoon?"
* UnkyRichdrivesfast is now known as UnkyRich
"Monday afternoon is alright." nodded Carmen "I have a TA job now on Mondays, so my schedule is busier, but we could have dinner after that?"
"Sounds good," Tamara said. "You bringing the big lug?" She poked Tony.
][ sorry got caught up in something else. ][
Kit looked around to see if he could locate Sera, or if she'd departed.
Sera hadn't departed - though she was quickly gathering up her stuff to leave
"Hey, Sera..." Kit headed over thataway.
"You happen to want to hang out this weekend?"
"Uh - sure?" Sera stopped to think. "Hang out doing what?"
Tony hmphed. "I'm not the lug here." He jabbed Tamara with a carrot stick.
"Ack, healthy food- I am the dead," Tamara said, mock-dying.
Daniel called from the refreshment table, "We're going round to the pubs, Sera, wanna come?"
"Yeah, that. He's got a chick coming- well, kinda-a-chick.An Inititative girl," Kit added.
"So it's not a weird threesome request."
"Yeh, pubs sound fun."
Danny would hate to be referred to as a 'chick'. She wanted to be one of the guys. Guys were fun to hang out with.
Tony chuckled. "You should eat more healthy things. They won't really kill you."
"I had a salad the other night," Tamara insisted. But she did snag the carrot stick and munch it.
"Besides, it'll be nice to be at a bar that isn't chock-full-o fake-id'd kids," Kit commented with a chuckle. "Or in the case of the Sunset, chock full of angsty kids."
"Which pub are we going to?" Sera asked.
"How's William been?" Tamara asked, her tone growing a bit more serious. "Is he really mad at me?"
"Well, I don't know," Kit said, and looked to Daniel, assuming he had the plan.
Tony raised an eyebrow. "What do you think?"
Tony assumed the end word of 'stupid' was implied.
Tamara sighed. "Right. Stupid question, I know." She picked up another carrot stick, and nibbled contemplatively
Tony continued to give her the raised-eyebrow look for a moment, then fed Carmen another celery stick.
Kit shrugged. "I'm sure we'll find one, if nothing else."
"The way this town sucks, there's bound to be a plethora of drinking establishments. When I was a raging alcoholic, I drank at the Fish Tank, but I wouldn't recommend that place- kinda a dive," Kit said.
Daniel shrugged as well, "If not ... we'll go pup hopping!" The archer chuckled.
"Anywhere but Willie's is fine with me," Sera said. "There is a bar on the outskirts of the city - though they have a pretty strict 'no humans allowed' rule."
"Which bars have the best TVs?" asked Danny "If we find one with a good TV, and a good game, the beer and barfood will probabaly be good."
"Can I bum a ride home?" Tamara asked her brother. "Or are you still pissed off at me too?"
"Yes," Tony answered, "you can bum a ride back to where you're staying."
"Okay," Tamara said, somewhat sulkily.
"The Pink Kitty has good wings," Kit said. "But they have strippers, not tv."
"Yeah, not a big fan of strippers," Sera commented.
One of the researchers who was getting pretzels eyed Kit with an 'ew' expression, shaking her head.
][ lol ][
"What?" Kit shrugged. "Hey if someone woman wants to shake her tits around for money, so be it. As long as the drinks are cheap and the wings are good."
Guys liked strippers, so Danny liked them too, right? She didn't know what to say though.
"Yeah, let's not do the strippers." Sera added. "Unless we do the monster bar after that."
Leaning over to Danny, Daniel murmured to her, "Yes ... he's like this all the time. I have to put with that a lot."
The researcher moved away from Kit, still making the 'ew' face.
Kit was pretty oblvious to the displeasure of others most times. "So what do you guys think about that whole bloody corn syrup mess, huh? Ain't that a bitch?"
Tamara went to pick off a cookie, and lurk away from the crowd for a while.
"That's just unreal," Morrigan said.
"He's cool." said Danny "Guys are like that... and yeah, nothing like that happened in Cleveland. Does it happen a lot here?"
"Maybe I'm weird, but I can't even imagine how fucked up someone would have to be to engineer something like that," Morrigan said.
"Shit's pretty sick. Not to mention, where the hell do you -get- that much corn syrup? Did the perp just go into a food service place and say 'Hey, how much of this shit would it take to fill up a body, anyhow? Oh yeah, and give me some of that red dye number five."
Tony continued to munch carrot sticks and occasionally feed Carmen one, because it was fun.
Carmen was pretty focused on the carrot sticks and Tony, because yeah, it was fun.
"It's morbid, if you ask me," The archer quipped.
"It's not that difficult," Sera said absently.
Kit gave her a look.
"And we know, because?"
Tamara looked around for someone to socialize with who wasn't pissed off at her, or related to her, or both.
"The average human body contains 6 quarts of blood - approximately - so that's something like 12 bottles of your average garden variety corn syrup bottle."
"For a beginning."
"Now, I"m not sure why they'd use corn syrup to replace the rest of the body - one would think a good marzipan or something would be more fitting - but that would actually take about half as much to get done." She looked up. "I'm thinking out loud again, aren't I?"
The researcher commented, "Actually, since the internal organs and skeletal structure were removed, the approximate volume of corn syrup used to inflate the interior plastics is estimated at approximately ten gallons.
Give or take a few ounces to account for the glass rod."
"Who the fuck are you?" Kit asked, with all his usual charm. "And what glass rod?"
The researcher blinked. "Um... Crystal Whitt. And... the one used as a triggerpin to control the release of the fluid to direct it to the ocular cavity..."
Well, that was a little more detail than he wanted to know. And that seemed as good a cue as any to leave, "Well, that's really more than I wanted to know. ... Ever. And, I've got a class to prepare for tomorrow. I'm heading home. Kit, I'll see you later, mate."
"Alright- see you back at the house," Kit said.
"So, when are we hanging out?" asked Danny
"Saturday night?" Kit suggested.
"Sounds good." Danny nodded
Nodding, Daniel saluted to everyone in the room, before heading out.
"..." The researcher quietly went back to consuming the free food.
MJ headed over to Morrigan, and snagged some of her snacks.
Morrigan playfully swatted his hand, but let him take her food. "So, looks like the shindig's breaking up."
