If possible, try to go with an apartment complex instead of renting a house. My first rental was the top half of a house in town...we didn't realize it at the time we signed the contract, but the people who rented the bottom half had complete access to our area because the doors only locked on THEIR side. It worked out ok, but really it was an unsafe situation for us. Also, the landlord would randomly appear, which could have been bad news if he were a creep. It's much easier to enforce the law when you're dealing with a good rental complex ( ... )

Do you have any friends who have rented apartments before, whom you can take along for support rather than asking your parents?

Also, if you go to see a place, make a checklist of things to ask about and check for. Things like: How long does the shower take to come on? Is the hot water working, etc. I often find I forget a lot of that stuff if I don't have it written down.

My friends and I are actually having a Obama Pie Party tomorrow night. Obama and Pie. It's going to be quite historic.
Apartment hunting is ridiculously stressful. I used to live in Res, but then my friend offered me a room in his condo. Good luck to you.

Obama and pie! lol, I mentioned this to a friend yesterday, and they were all "OMG WE SHOULD DOOOO THAT. I LIKE PIE ANNND I LIKE OBAMA!" :D
