Update from Hong Kong/Taiwan

Dec 26, 2007 09:56

It's been a bit crazy the last few days, and I have not had an opportunity to get online until now. This will be very brief. We spent 3 days in Hong Kong, and just got back to Taiwan just now. I'll be in Taiwan until the 31st. I took a bunch of pictures on my new camera, and will upload them when I get back. The quality is so beautiful ( Read more... )

Hey! =)

It's good to hear you're having fun over there! Kazu is still cute, but he's being a clingy baby. ^^; That is, he calls whenever I leave him alone (even for two minutes) - so I set up the old playgym in the living room when I'm outside, and he seems happy.

He's like the old Snowdrop in the the sense that he's not totally receptive to me yet, but can't stand being in the cage (he paces just like Snowdrop did). He did let me scratch his head a couple of times, though! (The other times, he's a fussy hen :P )

Anyway, I hope the rest of your trip goes great! =)

Actually, the rest of my trip did not go so great. XD Okay, I'm exaggerating. It was not that bad, when we went to Alishan, except for the fact that it was terribly cold. But all the time spent on public transport annoyed me. And being squished like sardines in taxis was no fun.

I showed you some of the pictures/videos we took. I'll be putting them up later.

Awww...poor Kazu. I think he's still getting over the fact that he was separated from his old flock. I have a feelng he'll be clingy for quite some time. We need to train him to like head-scritches more.

Dude, that's so awesome that you got a cockatiel!!! Cockatiels are awesome! ^_^ They're so affectionate and dorky. Do you know for sure if Kazuzu is a male or female? I'm just asking because if he's definitely male, then he'd probably lose his pearl spots when he grows up, but female tiels keep their pearls. Every once in awhile, though, a male keeps his pearls too.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Taiwan!

The breeder said he was male. I'm not sure how to sex cockatiels; how do you know what gender they are?

Yay, males are the best! ^_~ As for how to sex cockatiels, like most parrots you can't tell until they molt for the first time. With a normal gray parrot, the males get bright yellow faces at their first molt, while the females look roughly the same as they did when they were babies. It's a similar thing with cinnamons and whitefaces -- their faces become more yellow for cinnamons and turn pure white for whitefaces. With pearls, the males lose their pearls and the females keep theirs. With lutinos and pieds, there's really no way to tell other than by DNA sexing or behavior (males beak bang and do the "heart-shaped wings" and might talk or whistle; females don't).

Hope that answers your question. Sorry for the rambling! ^_^ Cockatiels just make me so excited! Please please please post pictures some time???
