Oh and this too.

Personality:

Liar.

Meet Shiba Takeru, 18th head of the Shiba clan and ShinkenRed. A quiet guy with a firm and assertive presence, he takes to the role of "lord" like a fish in water. A born leader, he leads the Shinkengers to victory time and time again. He doesn't really know what much of him there is other than lord, building his life around this title -- he's content to live as a samurai lord and nothing else. Though, why wouldn't he? He is a lord, after all, and there's no reason to be anything else.

Wrong.

In actuality, he's a kagemusha which is basically a term for an impersonator or, in his case, a fill in. From a very young age he was conditioned to be raised as a lord in place of the actual 18th head, Shiba Kaoru. Kaoru hadn't been born yet and since the battle between the Shinkengers and Gedoushu was getting even more volatile, the 17th head decided to hide his daughter and keep Takeru as the kagemusha. Of course, this had a very harsh effect on Takeru but still, he took it in stride. Really, what else could you do but take in stride? He had given up his life at a young age and there was no changing that.

So he became withdrawn, having the serious air of a true lord, yet never any company other than his servants and keeper. He didn't talk much about his feelings, didn't smile much, and just focused on the battle and only the battle. His life was already sacrificed from a young age, why bother expanding it to include other people? This was even shown in the fact that for years and years he refused to call forward the other Shinkengers until it was a necessary move to defeat the Gedou. Even then, he didn't have much say in the matter because his retainer called him forth too quickly for Takeru to deny him.

He was so sure he could take on the Gedou himself, defeat every last one of them by his own power that even when the other Shinkengers showed, he refused to open up to them. A wall was constructed between him and his vassals, and it's only until halfway through the series you see just how much he does open up to them. On top of that, it isn't until the series has almost ended that he realizes it himself. He's a guy who craves companionship -- friends are a very important part of his life and yet he refuses to connect to anyone for fear of dragging them into this mess, and I'm not just talking about the Gedou.

He's a kagemusha like stated earlier and because of this, not only does he give up his life to a lie -- he also cannot talk to anyone about his position. This formed into this ball of self loathing inside of Takeru that fuels many of his choices. His decision to keep a distance from his vassals and his decision to not let them come forth on his own willing choice. Also the choice that he made when it was found he was a kagemusha and the true lord came to light -- that choice being a sword fight to the death with a Gedou who was obsessed with being killed by Takeru via sword. The fight lasted almost a day, the two men fighting no matter what wounds were inflicted on them. Just continuing to fight until one of them fell and even when Takeru was about to surrender and the other Shinkengers came to pull him out of it -- the Gedou, Juzo, continued to try to attack him. The basic way I can describe this is a suicide attempt via sword.

Takeru has built his life around being a lord and when it all crumbles underneath him, it shows just how empty he really feels. He says something along the lines of "For the first time I saw the me that wasn't a lord, it surprised me to see nothing there" at one point when asked how he felt when the true lord came to light. I cannot stress enough about how much he's built his life around this lie and how much he hates himself because of it.

... Yet, it doesn't mean what he shows is fake and it takes a lot of convincing to Takeru for him to believe this. He truly is a guy who's afraid to express his feelings, who's quiet and subdued, ready to watch shenanigans from the background. He's also a guy who just likes simple things like friendship or card games or something along those lines. Yet, he's assertive and doesn't beat around the bush -- unless it comes to his feelings of course. He's a quiet authoritative presence amongst the more wild ones of the other Shinkengers. He's the type of guy who doesn't mind just spending a day doing something he enjoys -- just, it isn't his fault what he enjoys is training.

Though that ties into a whole other shell of him. He's actually pretty inexperienced in pretty much everything that isn't being a samurai. When I say he's built his life around being a lord, I mean it. In one episode he had to pretend to be a butler and just screwed up so many times because of how used to being catered on he is. To do things for himself without any help of his servants or his retainer is quite a daunting prospect to him -- but he will do it, or at the very least try. He is just so simply a samurai lord that he's forgotten how to be anything else.

Which makes for a very interesting chance of growth. This is even shown in the last episode when his retainer suggests classes for him to take since now he doesn't have to fight. Of course Takeru becomes flustered and dismisses the retainer because he's so embarrassed. Takeru can be thrown out of whack by things like that too. Just a suggestion of doing something different or what he may consider "weak" just sends him into an embarrassed mess. One could even call him a tsundere, heh.

Passive and strong, curious and quiet, insecure and perhaps even a bit easily embarrassed, Takeru is all of these. He craves the chance to find himself yet will never admit it, just give him a little push and he'll do his best to make you proud.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths: First and foremost, Takeru is a great leader. Despite his insecurities and his own personal faults, he still is able to keep up a calm and secure presence for his vassals. Somewhat of a "straight man" to everyone elses "funny man", he works as the team's rock. One of the first things he did to band them together, though harsh in execution, was to tell them that if they were still alive and they could stand, they must fight. When one team member was too injured to stand, he called her weak and left to fight. While this wasn't the nicest thing to say and for a moment, his team resented him -- when he showed that he was fighting to protect a child who almost was killed by a Gedou, they realized what he meant.

So the fact that he can do that says quite a lot. To push aside his own personal feelings and fight to protect the people is a noble trait and what I consider a strength. Along with his own personal inner strength -- showed by the fact that he kept up this facade of being a lord all his life, gave up his life to pretend to be a lord despite not being a Shiba by blood, and many other instances in which he protects the people and the Shinkengers in the show -- there is also the fact that he is ridiculously strong. It's not mentioned much but Takeru is kind of a one man killing machine. Everything here and down shows his equipment and the like and though he won't be able to use his Mecha in Vatheon (seriously, haha, mecha in vat), he still has some of the origami with him. The Sisi, the Tora, the Ushi, and the Kyoryu in particular. The Inromaru too annndddd maybe more? If it comes up, it'll be discussed. Either way, he's got a few nice toys with him.

But yes! He is a one man killing machine, the fact that he was able to take on the Gedou for years (which I assume went through his teenage years all the way till canon started) and on his own shows a lot. He only decided to bring the Shinkengers forth because Jii forced him too by doing so without giving him a chance to decide.

Weaknesses: He hates himself. He absolutely loathes himself because he had to lie to his vassals for almost an entire year -- and would possibly have gone on till he died if Kaoru didn't reveal herself later on. His sense of honor that he was raised with -- to protect the world from the Gedou and fight no matter what -- leaves him with this feeling of loathing for himself. He doesn't really view himself as anything but the kagemusha to Kaoru and when the lord role is taken away from him, he's left with nothing. He doesn't know himself aside from being a lord and fighting the Gedou.

Very protective of his feelings, he's kind of weak when it comes to talking about it. Even something as simple as giving a gift, he clams up and pushes the "blame" onto another person. It's hard for him to open up and be himself around people because he just doesn't know who he is. He feels empty and alone even with his vassals around and feels guilty constantly for lying to them. Though, when things change in the series and he's adopted by Kaoru -- becoming the official 19th lord, he does regain some confidence. He is truly nothing without being a lord and it's what I consider his biggest weakness. Though, he's only nothing because he's never had the chance to be something else.

Samples
First Person Sample: The sample must take place in Route_29's setting. Eight sentences is the minimum. This is a PokéConnect post--one that will be on the character's journal, broadcast to the network. Although it is short, it needs to show how your character would communicate with others, as well as be descriptive enough to express the character's voice without sounding too generic.

Third Person Sample: The sample must take place in Route_29's setting. The minimum is 300 words. Please note that what we are looking for is an inner working into the character’s thoughts and actions, and how the character responds to the setting, not something that could be taken as an excerpt fanfic. You may use other characters to bounce your characters actions off of, but everything should still be mostly from their point of view.
