[ History ] :
About the series.
About the character.

[ Personality ] :

Eiji is a character with a nice smile and a tragic past. He’s a traveler, surviving on spare change and underwear for the next day as he goes all over the world -- from Japan to China to Africa to America to Canada and back again! He does his best to make people happy and sticks his hand out to anyone in need. Overall, when you look at him, he’s a nice guy who doesn’t really know what he wants in life. This... is true and is not true at the same time.

Eiji is a broken guy. He has emotional scars that just won’t heal, no matter how much time he gives them. He lets them lie and does his best not to trigger them. So he travels, he distances himself from a stable life with family and friends because he doesn’t believe he deserves them. He hates himself on the inside and because of that, he helps people in need. Odd, right? It’s because of what happened to him.

When he was younger, he was caught up in a civil war accidentally triggered by his presence. The son of a very wealthy politician who also came from a long line of politicians, his presence caused the small country he was in to go into turmoil. He helped them as best as he could, helping the weak and getting people out of harm’s way. The problem was he had befriended a small girl and one day during a bombing in the city he was in, she was caught up in it. When he went to get her out of there, he was just a bit too late and watched her be blown up before his eyes.

From then on, he’s been a very broken man. Dead inside yet with a smile on his face, he deals with this guilt he faces every day. Nobody knows what he’s done because he’s cut off contact from people such as friends and family to just... travel. Be a drifter and that’s it. It’s not the healthiest way to deal with his problems but it’s how he’s dealing with them and he doesn’t change for anything. His dream, his desire is to have the power to help people and yet it’s not till the very end of the series that he realizes this. For most of the series, he’s just a guy without desires and in a world fueled by them -- it became a very important part of him.

This all is before the series starts, of course. When it starts, Eiji meets Ankh -- a bird like creature who is the manifestation of Greed. With a suiting name of "Greeed" -- three E’s to match the series theme -- he is given the power to turn into Kamen Rider OOO. Through his relationship with Ankh and his actions as OOO, he does his best to save who he can because as he believes, he cannot save the world but he can save people right in front of him. With OOO, his range of people to save just extends a little further.

Eiji is a guy who addicted to helping people. Not because of moral obligation but because it distracts him of the guilt he faces from the civil war. If he can save one person, he can feel good about himself long enough till he can save another so he isn’t swallowed in by his depressive guilt for too long. He doesn’t do it for the thanks or anything, he does it for his own selfish reasons. He does it because he hates himself too much not to.

Yet it’s kind of funny, Eiji is nice to everyone. He’s a guy who really seems to be genuine and helpful. He spreads hope and cheer where he goes and gives out optimism like apple pie yet... when it comes to Ankh, the monster his fate is entwined with because of OOO, he is a big of a dick. He doesn’t consider Ankh as a person with feelings, he considers him a monster and doesn’t treat him the way he deserves. Eiji is judgemental in that once he considers a person a bad guy -- they are a bad guy. There is no changing this and that’s what he had to learn in his relationship with Ankh. Right off the bat, he thought Ankh as the bad guy and as the series progresses, he learns that Ankh is neither bad or good. He is just a person who desires to live.

Eiji learns a lot through the series and even if his guilt won’t wash away completely, by the end of it he’s no longer the self-hating optimistic guy who lives on spare change and underwear. Instead, he’s a guy who’s looking for himself and has friends and doesn’t cut himself off from the world anymore. He travels still but it’s not for escape anymore. He instead can truly be the optimistic, happy guy he is -- guilt not included.

... Unfortunately for him, I’m taking him from before the end of the series where he’s in the middle of going insane from using the OOO belt. Whoops.
