-CHAPTER 3-
My bag is exceptionally heavy today so it was a pain going to school. I had packed an extra lunch, which was generously filled with one of my best dish. If this won’t make that tall hungry guy hang around more with me, I don’t know what will because back home, people that went to the restaurant would come just for this dish sometimes. (With all due modesty)
When I arrived at school, I made sure that my hair was very much in my face and that no bully’s “girl” would come to talk to me. Who knows, maybe if I look anti-social enough, they won’t approach me.
As I entered class the first thing that I noticed was that the very pretty girl was already there. That girl is so pretty that it was hard not to notice her even in a big class of thirty people. She had long straight waterfall-like hair that seemed to have some motion even without any wind. (Pretty people defy the laws of physic) Her skin was so milky white that the morning light on her skin made her shine. She was reading her textbook, her sparkly eyes moving gracefully across the page. I wasn’t attracted to her physically, but I was very in awe of her beauty.
Suddenly, I was pushed by something, or rather someone which made me snap back into reality. Did I just have a wow-she’s-so-pretty moment? Unbelievable.
I looked at what bumped into me and noticed that it was that very handsome guy from yesterday. He sat down very quickly and shot me cold glare that sent shivers down my spine. Then it came to me that maybe, just maybe he and the girl were a couple and the fact that I was staring at her made him very angry so I just decided to walk to my seat and sit down. I tried to just look down with my hair covering my face to avoid any other stares that could possibly come in my direction. If I was lucky, maybe the people of this class would just leave me alone.
Unfortunately for me, it looks like my luck hasn’t quite turned yet for a felt somebody poke me on the shoulder. I had no choice but to look up; it was that hyper girl from yesterday.
“Hey, why do you put all that hair in your face?” she said, amused. She was pretty loud. I didn’t reply to her and just looked down; hopefully she’s not that bully’s “girl”. Because she was the loudest thing in class, everybody seemed to be looking in my direction now.
“Hey are you ignoring me?” the girl said, probably pouting. I didn’t respond. Right then, I could feel the whole class staring at me. Sweat started accumulating on my forehead.
Then, for the first time in two days, I felt lucky when the teacher came in and made everybody go back to their seats. I let out a sigh of relief.

As I was listening to class, a paper note made its way to my desk. On the note, there were a few words written with very bad handwriting.
“KIM JAEJOONG, YOU’RE DEAD”
“Fuck!” I thought “darn that hyper girl for talking to me. Now I have to deal with the bully again!”

Lunch time.
As everybody was leaving class, I also did, trying to mix with the crowd so I won’t get in trouble yet. And to my relief, it worked. Taking my two lunches, I quickly made my way to the cafeteria and tried to spot the permanently-hungry guy to buy his friendship with food. It was quite easy considering that he’s probably the tallest person in the whole school. Even with all the people walking about and my long hair in my face, I couldn’t miss him.
“Hi Changmin, hi Junsu” I said in a friendly tone to the two of them as I sat down.
“Woah, you look like you were planning to get hungry today, Jaejoong” Junsu said eying the two lunchboxes I was holding. Changmin was looking at the lunchboxes too, except that his eyes were staring differently. He was staring in an envious and hungry way.
“Nah, I brought one for Changmin since I planned to eat lunch today” I said humorously, even though it wasn’t really funny.
Changmin ignored the joke and just looked at me with big surprised eyes.
“Really?! You asked your mom to make a lunch for me too?!” he said, almost tearing up.
“Um… ya…” I said; it’s best if they think it’s my mom who made it because cooking is probably for sissies.
“Oh you’re the best!” he said, shamelessly grabbing one of the lunchboxes and Junsu just face-palmed himself in exasperation.
“Hey… I know this is kinda soon to say stuff like this since we don’t know each other that much anyways, but do you guys think that we can hang out sometimes?” trying to not sound too much like a loser. At my words, Junsu’s eyes lit up. Changmin was still in his food.
“Sure, when?” Junsu said, his voice slightly higher pitched than usual.
“Um… like maybe… today?” I said in a shy voice, expecting refusal. The truth is; I think that hanging out with somebody as tall as Changmin and as… hyper… as Junsu, maybe the bullies won’t dare to bully me as much.
“Cool!!!” Junsu exclaimed “where do you wanna go? The mall, the arcades, a movie?” Junsu said with a lot of enthusiasm. Wow, the result was a lot better than expected.
“Sorry guys, but I need to study” Changmin said, having somehow already finished all his food.
“Tsk don’t be such a nerd, Changminie!” Junsu said, slapping Changmin on the shoulder.
“Maybe we could go an all you can eat buffet first?” I proposed. Changmin’s enthusiasm seemed to have raised a little bit, but went down almost just as quickly.
“But I don’t have any money with me…” Changmin said with sad eyes “and a buffet is expensive…” he said, licking his lips. Right then, I wanted to pat his head and give him a hug.
“Then how about I treat you guys this time?” I said with a smile. Changmin looked up with a big smile and for the third time, said “REALLY?! Then count me in!” he exclaimed and gave me a friendly hug.
I wonder who’s the person who said that “friendship can’t be bought” since that’s exactly what I’m doing.
