Just another HS fic- Chapter 5
-CHAPTER 5-
The mall is closing soon and we need to leave.
We were rushing out of the mall when someone tackled me while shouting “Yah!”.
I turned around. It was that hyper girl from before. The one the bully called “ugly monkey”. She’s not ugly really, just that her beauty is more on the cute-hyper-I-eat-marshmallows-for-breakfast side rather than the omg-she-so-pretty-she-like-goddess.
“Yes…?” I said, wondering if she also hates me for some reason. The girl didn’t have any friends with her. She was by herself and still dares to provoke a guy that she barely knows. (A guy with two other guys, mind you)
“Why did you ignore me in class?” she said looking at me defiantly in an annoyingly cute way. Right then, I figured that she was one of those girls that watched too many Korean dramas and is pretty much inside her own bubble all the time. Changmin and Junsu just looked at each other, raising an eyebrow each.
“It’s because I thought you were that bully’s ‘girl’” I said, making quotations with my fingers.
“Tsh,” she made a disbelieving expression “ yah! I’d die before I date that guy!” she screamed unnecessarily.
“Oh… look, can we talk while walking out of the mall…?”
She squinted her eyes at me.
“…because it’s closing?”
“…Ah, okay” she finally said, hopefully realizing that she’s being stupid.
“So anyways, sorry for earlier, but I didn’t want to get in trouble” I said.
“So that bully guy likes me?” she said, making a snob not-in-a-million-years face.
“Um, actually, I figured out that he actually likes Euna” I said, nonchalantly. Junsu and Changmin seemed to have gotten quiet with the presence of that girl.
“Euna?! HA! He’s gotta be kidding, the prettiest girl in class- no, in the whole school! And she has better things to do than to pay attention to a trouble maker like him!”
“Hey, you never know. Opposite people might attract each other” Junsu commented, in a small voice, almost like he was afraid of being heard.
“Yeah, but have you seen him? How can anyone date him at all?” she said, disbelieving what Junsu just said.
“Jeez, sorry” Junsu said, looking away. The atmosphere became awkward. Even the girl probably felt it.
“Anyways, what’s your name?” I asked to change the subject of the conversation.
“Hm? Oh, I’m Ji Eun! But you can call me IU (AiYu)” she said, with a goofy smile.
The three of us were left confused.
“Um… why?” Changmin asked. This girl really seems to know how to create conversation topics just by being… spontaneous.
“Because it sounds cute and I like it” the girl said. I looked at her and found that, actually, IU did suit her a lot; she was cute enough to make people want to eat her alive and think that she’d taste something like candy or marshmallow.
I nodded. Somehow, it made sense.
“So you’re getting trouble from the bully now?” she asked like she already knew.
“How did you know?”
“Well, I saw you looking at Euna this morning” IU said proudly; she seems to be proud that she knows something about my life.
“Ah. Does he bully everybody that looks at her? Cause I think that it’d make a lot of people to bully” I said thinking that a girl that pretty would probably have all, if not most of the boys in school after her.
“Mm, he does what he can” she said with a smirk.
“Eh?”
“Well, there are people who are stronger than him in school you know…and in our school, it’s not always enough to have the brain and, or the brawn. Sometimes, it’s about the fortune” she said, looking at me with an amused look.
“Oh, you mean like, how rich the person is?” I said.
“Yep, that’s right. So that means that Mansu can’t bully people who are stronger, more popular or who’s family background is better than him” she said, sticking her tongue out on the side. I made a mental note that all bullies must have ugly names.
“By the way you’re saying this, I’m guessing that he can’t bully you?” I asked making a face that she can’t see.
“Nope. And I see that you’ve got yourself quite some… friends” she said, looking at Junsu and Changmin who seemed a little bit startled by her sudden attention “quite nice to have connections so soon no?” she said, smiling with her eyes, but something about her comment didn’t seem nice. However, I don’t think I’m in position so say much. I might consider them as friends, but I don’t know what they think yet.
“Don’t say that, Jaejoong is really our friend” Junsu said genuinely, looking at me like he’s sorry for her. Changmin just nodded. IU then looked at me so I nodded too.
“Are you sure?” she said, raising her eyebrows.
“Yes” I said. I’m really glad that Junsu and Changmin are my friends. They’re great people.
“Say it while looking at me in the eyes”
“Um….”
“Just push your hair aside, I can’t even see your face right now. Aigoo~ why do you even put your hair like this, it’s not even in style” she said and took out a bobby pin from her pocket. Then, she took my bangs and clipped them on the side of my head. I was literally paralyzed from shock. The three of them also looked very shocked. Well, no shit, I had a friggin pin on my head. I immediately proceeded to take it off, but IU stopped me.
“No, don’t! Y-you have too look at me in the eyes first” she protested. I took a deep breath and exhaled; this situation is crazy, but I decided that I’d get it over with. I looked at her in the eyes.
“I, Kim Jaejoong, really do consider Junsu and Changmin as my friends” I said with a hand on my chest. Right then, two patches of pink appeared on IU’s cheeks and she started giggling so I took off the bobby pin and hid behind my hair once again.
