Easy Website Making and Hosting?

Hi everyone! Are there any of you out there who have ever made your own little web site, but aren't web designers? I have a friend who is looking to make his own web pages for stuff that he is selling. I only really know how to make stuff from scratch from a web designer's point of view, which is handy, but not helpful for what he needs. Do any of

He used a template and everything that they have there. The problem with using a template on this site is there's no way to insert code anywhere, so I don't like it (I had to help him add the paypal links). It's easy, though.

I started playing around with google sites. It is free and interfaces nicely with other google programs like picasa. Its pretty easy to use if you don't want anything too terribly fancy.
