I am drawing little hearts ALL OVER THIS POST. All over. ALL OVER.
I love that they used the 'Blaine has too many solos' this way. How can you complain after that? IT IS A PLOT POINT THAT GAVE US CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND FORWARD MOTION. He was nothing but sweet and wonderful, and how great is it that he likes all the parts of Kurt, and Kurt still likes him even when he's an adorable fail!Blaine?
From that angle, not only were some of these scenes in Original Song meta, playful little stabs at Darren’s increased role on the show and both the stanning and the backlash that has inevitably come from it, but they were also meant to be a really solid subversion of exactly this theory - that Blaine is some selfish, solo-hogging, manipulative asshole.
This is exactly why I don't understand why people are still bashing Blaine's character as some arrogant jerk. This episode pretty much stripped all those notions down with the meta references (really, it began with SLS). Bringing up all these things about how he automatically gets all the solos and the Warblers basically hero-worship him - this is absolutely intentional! Why don't people see it?
But then Kurt walks in all his beautiful, bitchy, emotionally stripped down glory and Blaine just lets himself FEEL for once. Kurt is shaking him to the core and changing everything he thought he knew. "You move me, Kurt."
I read the post you linked to, and wow was I angry and upset, and then I came in here and read, and spent the entire time nodding, and whispering "Yes!" (hopefully my coworker didn't hear me). And now I feel much, much better.
naderegen and I were discussing a bit this morning Kurt calling Blaine out on the solos, and how very obvious it is that Blaine had never noticed it was a problem. Not because he enjoys hogging the spotlight or is selfish or any of that, but simply because he enjoys what he does, and until someone steps up and points out that maybe it's not all roses and unicorns, then he notices. And then he does something about it. Because, Blaine is a good person. Nothing this show has given us has shown otherwise
