So, found some tartan wool on e-bay for a steal of a bargain, and Shadow ordered it for me. It looks good, though it's not the colors I had hoped for. It's black on red, a variant of the Leslie family tartan. (Not that that matters, since family-related tartans is strictly 17th century and later anyhow, but it's fun to pay attention to it, anyway ( Read more... )

oooooooooooooooooooooooo...............

Puuuuuuuuuuuuuurdy............

If you end up with any teeeny scraps that are mostly useless for anything... i.e. at least 2" x 2" or bigger, in any wacky scrappy shape... Basically anything with more than 4 threads that you'd toss anyway... save them for me? I'm saving plaids for a all-plaid crazy quilt, and that is 1) gorgeous and 2) from you. (I like being able to point to patches in a quilt & say, and that's from my friend so&so...)

Sorry, Nani... but my kilt-construction method doesn't leave any scraps. See, all I do is chop it in half, rotate the pieces 90 degrees, and sew them side by side. I don't even hem it... leaves a nice rough edge that becomes bitchin' loverly and period fringe. It's not technically a kilt, actually, it's sort of the female and Irish version, called an airesod. Longer than a kilt, mostly, and pleated a LOT more casually, but otherwise, the same thing.

Tell ya what though- you've been so helpful all around, if I can spare even a few inches, I'll chop it at one end, and you can have that, k?
