My dad was laid off today. While it was a bit of a surprise, no one is really butt hurt over it (lol except my mom as I'm sure she's sobbing somewhere asking how he will afford to buy her designer purses now). As my parents are actually fiscally responsible, they're financially well off for him to not have to work for a few years. I'm actually ( Read more... )

Congrats, then! I've had to ocassion to congratulate people for weirder thing, so it's not very surprising to me that being laid off might be the best thing (under certain circumstances)... Though I'm a bit surprised you want your family close now... Didn't you want to be far away from them?

Anyway, let's hope it's all for the best :)

Lol I want to be close to my dad and brother but far from my mom ^^;

I'd like to live in the same area of the United States as them. Close enough to where I can pop in once a week or every other to be like 'hey.... cook for me!!!'. As long as we're not living together we're okay. But right now with them in DC and me in Seattle, it's 3000 miles and a $500 plane ticket (plus that 5 hour plane ride >_<).

I'm hoping he'll get a job in Portland (Oregon), which is about 3 hours from here. That's a safe distance kekekeke

LOL yeah I get it. Manageable distance is the thing! I just keep forgetting how far you are (even though I lived in the States, I do keep forgetting it can be SO far away... Here you're normally not farther than an hour and a half from...well, EVERYWHERE).

And yay, cooking is totally the thing :) I always think so when I'm NOT the one doing it ;)

I'm happy for y'all! That is by far the weirdest statement I've ever made regarding a job loss. Getting out of a shitty job is the most freeing feeling in the world. I hope your father is able to enjoy the freedom that comes with not being tied to that job, and that they buy into your west coast philosophy.

We grew up out here and I'm the only one who came back and now I'm like 'ooooo look at all this awesome stuff' and I think they're getting jealous kekekekekekeke.

And yes, getting out of a job you hate always feels like perfection.

all that matters is that your dad is happy. he should definitely take some time off and consider his options, as long as he's saved up...shit he can do whatever he wants. that is too presh that they want to be close to you <3

my dad and i never really got along until he got laid off strangely enough. sometimes life changes like that can bring the best out in people, it can show they aren't sticks in the mud and it can really give them an opportunity to express who they really are...this can be really good yaaaaay :D

what puppets did you work on?

when I got laid off, I felt so much relieve so I kind of can relate to that feeling, but I guess it's easier when head hunters are out there to get you to work for there companies and having enough money to not to have to work for a few years even. Your dad can get the perfect job for him cause he has the luxury of time, and Portland sounds indeed nice to live in :D
