The concerns and doubts you raise here are thoroughly familiar... for reference, there's a recent entry in my journal on the topic of disillusionment.

All I can suggest is this: Love in infinitely variable, from person to person and couple to couple. There's no single definition, and no single set of expectations and hopes, that can be applied to everyone.

You're right, as is so often the case my friend. It is very funny, how similar our thoughts seem to be, and that we seem to reach them around the same time.

I guess, it's hard to begin to have some of that naive idealism stripped away, and realize that maybe true love isn't always possible, but love itself might be.
