Such A Mad World

Today marks 61 years since the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and yet, here we sit, with more nations than ever capable of threatening each other with a nuclear explosion. We seem forever on the brink, with so many conflicts bursting forth in all corners of the world. It makes for some to really evaluate their lives, the very essence of being, ( Read more... )

61 years since the first - and (hopefully/so far) only - nuclear bombardment of innocents, but also 61 years since the united world brought an end to the regimes responsible for the holocaust and the abhorrent atrocities in Manchuria and elsewhere. The grimmest kind of 'positive', one borne of necessity and survival, but a positive nonetheless.
'Tis a mad world, as the lyrics say. And as my LJ says, it's also a madness that's ongoing and evolving. Yet amidst the madness, while we wait for our species to find new excuses to annihilate itself, there are wonders that suggest we might, one day, rise above the hatred and despair - wonders such as happiness and love.
Small positives, perhaps, when they're viewed in light of the big picture, but on an individual level that can mean almost everything.
