He’d been thinking about it for a couple of weeks now. Or the past few months, if he was going to be honest. The thought had always lingered in the back of his head but he’d always been too worried about Kristen’s reaction about this. Logically, he knew he didn’t need to worry about that, but still... the idea was a fucking giant step in their relationship.

Rob was going to ask Kristen to live with him… at least for a few months while he’s in Los Angeles for filming.

It wasn’t like they haven’t been doing that for almost the entire year. Logically, they’ve been “living together” ever since Eclipse started filming, with either him or Kristen sneaking off to each other’s rooms for the night. They’ve done that even through the New Moon press junkets, but Rob thinks it’ll be different if they were together in a house. Just the two of them. Together.

Tonight, they were both lying on the couch of Kristen’s hotel room in London watching aimless British shows on television, being lazy and boring. They weren’t due out for New York for a couple of days and Kristen still had a couple of publicity-related activities to deal with while he was off to set shooting for his film. Tonight however, was one of those nights they had to themselves and they were making the most out of it by sleeping on the couch.

Kristen was practically lying on top of Rob, her cheek pressed against his heart and her hands resting lightly on his chest. Rob had secured her to him by hooking his foot around her calf, one of his arms wrapped tenderly around her. He pressed a kiss to the crown of her head, debating with himself if this was actually the right time to open the topic. No time like the present, right?

“Baby?” Rob murmured quietly, testing to see if Kristen was awake. She hummed in recognition and he ran his fingers up and down her back, sighing when he realized she wasn’t sleeping. “Baby, how hard is it to get a house in Los Angeles?”

Kristen lifted her head off his chest, her eyebrows raised in question. “What, you mean like, to buy?”

He blanched. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to buy a house with her, but he’d always thought they’d do that when they weren’t running around all over the world for work. That idea was set far more into the future.

“Uh, well, no,” he stammered, his fingers still running over her back. “More like… to lease? Rent? I- I don’t- um, I really don’t know what it is with houses. I suppose it’s different from flats or apartments, is it?”

She shrugged, laying her head back on his chest. Rob’s fingers moved on to her hair, his fingers tangling with the dark locks. “I don’t think it’s that different. I mean, it’s probably a lot more fucking expensive but a lease is a lease, right?” Kristen shifted slightly, turning her head to look up at him. “Were you thinking of leasing a house or something?”

“Um, yeah,” Rob mumbled quietly. “You know I would rather go for something small, like, an apartment of some sort but it uh… it doesn’t really offer much privacy, you know?”

Kristen smiled, lifting her hand to brush a stray lock of hair from his forehead. “Yeah I get it. Don’t worry, we’ll find you a house in L.A.”

“Okay…”

She smiled again, this time turning her head back on his chest to focus on the television. Rob blew out a breath he didn’t know he was holding before opening his mouth again.

“Kristen?”

“Yeah baby?”

“Will you- would you…” he paused, drawing his lip with his teeth. Kristen quirked an eyebrow at him and he sighed, smoothing her hair out to look at her fully. “Will you… uh, move in with me? I mean, at least while we’re both in Los Angeles?”

Kristen pulled her head up, looking at him squarely in the eye. Rob was still worrying his lip with his teeth until her face broke out into a wide grin. “Really? You- really?”

He nodded his head, grinning at her. “Well, of course. As if there was anybody else I’d ask to live with me.”

Kristen pulled herself up higher over his body, pressing quick kisses to his lips while she grinned uncontrollably, her eyes sparkling happily. Rob never thought he’d ever seen her smile that way and he wanted to hit his head with a giant fucking book for doubting she’d decline his offer.

“You really want to live with me?” She murmured against his lips, her hand pushing away all his hair away from his forehead. “Like, we’ll seriously be together in a house? I’m going to drive you insane.”

Rob laughed, puckering his lips to kiss her again. “Don’t you drive me insane even if we’re not living together?”

Kristen snorted, sighing lightly while nuzzling the side of his face. “That’s true…”

“Hmm. Are you happy about this?” He mumbled and she grinned, kissing his cheek.

“You have no fucking idea.”

“So what do you want to look for with the house?”

Rob looked down at her, his brow furrowed in concentration. They were both on the flight to New York for his premiere and Kristen was resting her head on his shoulder, watching the boring in-flight entertainment to keep them occupied. She looked up at him, waiting for an answer.

“Uh,” he paused, scratching his head. “I don’t know…”

“Pool? Balcony? Big fucking backyard?”

Rob rolled his eyes. “I really don’t care about those baby. I just… uh, I just want it to be hidden away and private.”

Kristen blinked. He blinked back, wondering if that was too much of a request. After all, she had already volunteered to call her father’s realtor and she was going to check out the places he would be suggesting. Maybe it was too much.

“You want it private?” She asked, turning her body to face him. “Like, no neighbors kind of private?”

“Mmm, that’s nice, but not my top priority,” Rob murmured, squeezing her hand that was resting on his knee. “Am I asking for too much? Anything you pick will be fine with me, baby.”

“No Rob,” she shook her head gently, squeezing his hand too. “It’s not too much. And I want it private too. I was just surprised that was the only thing you were asking for.”

“Oh. I just don’t want a place where people and paps can stalk outside, bothering us when we don’t want to, and I don’t want them to pester you since I know they would. But I’m trusting you on this one. I’m not an expert on residences.”

“What and you think I am?”

Rob laughed, turning his body towards her. “No, but you know the place better than I do. And you’re the one with better taste, if you need some reminding.”

“No, I don’t need reminding,” Kristen grinned, watching him. She lifted her hand up, stroking his cheek quickly. “You really put some thought into this, huh? Don’t want to deal with me after a paparazzi bitching?”

“I really don’t care about that baby. You can bitch all you want, it’s fine. But I’d rather see you smiling and laughing at me when you get home rather than see you looking like you want to rip someone’s head off.”

They were quiet for a moment when the flight attendants started handing some snacks, their conversation cut short for lack of privacy. When everything was cleared, Kristen looked up at him.

“Rob, baby?” Rob squeezed her hand while sipping on his drink. “I’m really excited to share a house with you.”

He smiled, reaching over to kiss her gently. “I’ve been excited for a while now. I can’t wait.”
