Years, he had been on the run for years. He’d been running from his coven for years. He was a witch, running from the one thing that should only matter to him.

Going from one city to the next, trying to blend in with the mortals of the world. He did all within his powers to stay hidden from those in search of him and those who would kill him. It was lonely, but, for what or who he was, it was for the best.

In the recent years though, he had come to find someone to love. The old him, had lost all hope, even shunned the thought of love before he’d come across this hunter. A human that usually would have killed him for even being what he was in a blink of an eye.

They had changed dynamics though after a night the young blonde hunter had helped him escape.

It had been a huge mistake on his part.

The restaurant he had been a waiter at, a coworker of his had been having trouble with an abusive, stalker boyfriend. The young woman was afraid of the man; he had been getting more violent and even threatening the poor woman. So, merely out of the goodness of his heart, Reita had something done about it.

He had put a hex on the poor bastard, sending him to the E.R. with myriads of things wrong with him; that and a fair warning to the man. To say the least, the asshole wasn’t bothering anyone anymore.

His actions caught the attention of the last person he had wanted to though; a hunter.

A short gasp left him when he felt something sharp pressed to his throat. The fucker was holding a knife to his neck! The little fucker was actually threatening his life! This prick just didn’t know who he was fucking with.

Swallowing, the edge of the blade scraping against his Adams apple, Reita slowly opened his hand and pressed it against the wall. Flicking his wrist and the other flew back with a cry. Turning quickly with his hand still held out, he gasped out as he was suddenly tackled back against the wall. Raising his hand again, it froze in mid air when the knife again was pressed to his neck and cut deep into his skin.

“I wouldn’t do that,” Ruki hissed warningly into a pierced ear. Applying a little more pressure to the blade, beads of red appeared, he snickered, “witch.”

Reita tensed beneath the body, “You’re a hunter?”

“Ding, ding, ding,” the strawberry blonde cheered crudely. Taking the taller by the shoulder roughly, turning him and slamming back against the wall, he tilted his head with a click of his tongue, “I must say you were very hard to find. I give you credit for that little goose chase that sent me to Scotland, only to find out that I had been tailing a horse’s ass.”

Snorting, Reita tilted his head to the side, “that wasn’t meant for you.”

Raising the blade to the face of the taller, pressing it against a cheek and forcing the witch to look back at him, Ruki smiled knowingly, “Oh, I know that. I know all about that little coven you ran out on.”

Eyes narrowing, the taller swallowed. Licking his lips slowly, he asked carefully, “how would a hunter know about that?”

Edge of the knife pressed against the smooth face of the man and slowly, Ruki pulled it downward, cutting into the face. Gazing up through his lashes, he shrugged, “well, of course they didn’t appreciate you running out on them. So, while it’s normal for witches to hunt down those who challenge their covens, yours; well, yours didn’t want to get their hands dirty.”

Surprised by the information, Reita blinked. It was completely unnatural for a coven of witches to turn to someone else to kill their own. His own coven, they didn’t want to hunt him down themselves and so, they found a hunter to do it for them. While it seemed smart on the coven’s part, it was rather fishy to the blonde.

Reita frowned, “so, you’re hunting me for my coven?”

“I know,” Ruki sighed dramatically, “a bunch of lazy bastards they are. It’s a wonder you ran out on them in the first place.”

Sneering, the blonde tilted his head back further, exposing more of his throat, he ordered, “Do it. It’s not like it’ll do anyone any good.”

“That’s a tempting offer, but, I can’t.”

That left even more horrible feeling and he asked seriously, “What did they promise you?”

Grinning as the man asked him that, the hunter tilted his head. Tiptoeing slightly so he was almost face to face with the pinned blonde, “that is none of your business.”

“You don’t even realize it,” Reita said with a snort. Brown eyes narrowed as he sneered at the hunter in front of him, “they fed you a bunch of bullshit. They were only using you as their little blood hound.”

The corners of the shorter blonde’s mouth fell and he settled back on his feet, “what makes you so sure of that?”

“You’re not the first hunter to fall for what they promised you,” he smirked. Eyes going to the end of the alley and back to the hunters, he laughed, “While you’ve been trying to find me, they’ve been tailing you. They only used you to get to me, because they know you hunters are good little trackers. Now that you’ve found me, you’re no longer of use to them.”

Considering the bit of information, Ruki looked down the alley; in the direction that Reita had just looked a second ago. Facing the blonde, he growled, “Why are they after you?”

Pursing his lips in thought, Reita weighed the choice carefully. Not feeling completely trusting of the man who still held a knife to him; a man, that would no more than love to cut him down for being what he was. On the other hand, maybe, just maybe he’ll be able to use the help of the hunter.

Pressing the blade even firmer against the witch’s throat, he demanded, “Why are they after you?”

Tightening his jaw, he casted his gaze down, “help me and I might tell you.”

Since that night, they had been on the run together for nearly six years. If Reita had to admit anything, those were the best years of his life on the run. In those years with the shorter blonde, that was the most he’d ever felt alive in his centuries of life.

In the first three years, he had found himself becoming drawn to the hunter and his catty ways, so by the beginning of the fourth year, yes, he knew he was attracted to the other. The strength and the determination the young hunter had to help others, it drew Reita. The beauty the younger possessed, that was just an added bonus to what the blonde already liked about the man.

Upon the beginning of the seventh year on the run, a drunken night had changed what they had become accustomed to. Coming through the door of their shared apartment, he shoved the strawberry blonde against the wall of the hallway, ravaging Ruki’s mouth.

Completely unsure who had initiated the kiss or who had even initiated the first teasing touch, but, it didn’t matter as clothes were shed. Hot flesh pressed together, desperate for more skin on skin contact, hands roaming frantically over planes of soft skin. The witch’s lips created a path of wet, feverish kisses down the neck, tongue and teeth teasing the flesh, leaving dark marks in their wake.

Bending slightly and hooking both hands beneath Ruki’s knees, he lifted the body up and carried him towards one of the rooms. Getting to a bed and kneeling on the edge, easing the other down, their lips never once broke contact. Reita’s hands skimmed over the smooth stomach up the hairless chest, tweaking the nipples.

“Reita,” a soft gasp fell past kiss swollen lips.

Leaning down, the witch pressed a few more kisses to the heavily fluctuating chest, his tongue briefly flicking over small buds; playing with them. While a hand fell to a slim waist, resting lightly, thumb caressing the sensitive bit of skin. Keeping the writhing pleasure body as still as possible while Reita continued to bestow small bites and kisses; bruising the soft flesh as he pleased.

Arching off the bed slightly, Ruki’s hand found their way into bleached locks, choking softly, “Please-Reita, please.”

Pulling away, Reita leaned over to the bedside, blindly rummaging through it for a small tube. Yanking the younger to him, capturing the lips and caressed the pair with his own, tasting the hunter, memorizing the sweet orifice. Another soft plea reaching his ear and he did what the other was begging for.

Popping the cap of the lube, coating his fingers that then slowly trailed along the round of flesh, circling the tight hole and he loved the way Ruki’s skin flushed. It was a beautiful soft scarlet color; it made the younger look even more gorgeous. It darkening just slightly as he pushed a finger past the tight muscles, a low groan boiling over at the tight heat.

Head craning with a pleasured cry. Nails dug into the arm of his soon to be lover, tearing a bit of skin as the finger began a steady rhythm. Body relaxing, Ruki sighed, it lasting for a small moment; a second finger following the first and then, finally the third.

With one last resolute kiss, Reita pushed his arousal through the tight ring of muscles. Groaning against the mouth at the tight teat enveloping him and from there, they both lost themselves. The firmness of his thrusts met the sure movements of the man beneath him.

The pace soon picked up. It quickening and becoming hard; the blonde pounded into the bed atop the bed. Not able to get enough of the way Ruki called his name, begging him for more. After this night, the witch didn’t think he’d ever be able to get enough.

Morning had come upon them shortly and Reita woke with a huge headache. Groaning softly as his lashes fluttered and he was staring up at the bare white ceiling. Squeezing his eyes shut when they began to hurt, he shifted slightly, suddenly aware a body pressed against his own.

Swallowing a nervous lump, he slowly looked down, finding a mass of blonde hair. Gaze traveling slightly further downward to take in the sight of a sleeping hunter and Reita felt panic fill him. The night coming back to him like a punch to the stomach; what they had done, what he had done by allowing himself to give into the other.

The smaller body squirmed and lashes fluttered, revealing soft hazel eyes. A smile appeared on Ruki’s lip as he cuddled closer, “morning, Rei.”

“Morning,” his voice croaked in return, shocked that the other wasn’t going to deck him in the face.

Slowly sitting up with a wince, Ruki’s expression fell, “you look, shocked.”

“I am. I’m a witch, Ruki.” Clearing his throat, he sat up as well, motioning between his body and Ruki’s body, “This-this isn’t normal; me and you.”

Frowning at the way the man had said it, the young hunter sighed, “Reita, you have to stop looking at things so negatively.”

“If I don’t, then who will?” Reita countered, beginning to feel frustrated. Bringing his knees up, he ran both hands through his mussed hair, “this is a mistake. You shouldn’t be here; this-this shouldn’t have happened because-”

Pressing a hand to the lips of the taller blonde, Ruki leaned in; pressing a soft kiss to parted lips and slowly straddled the elder. Lightly cupping the face with both hands and gently pried apart the sweet tasting lips of the witch. Moaning softly as the kiss was timid, but, surely reciprocated.

Pulling away, he stared up at the face of the other. Swallowing the lump in his throat, he whispered softly, “This won’t end well for me. Ruki, you need-have to leave me. Being this close to me is going to get you killed.”

“I’m a hunter, I think can handle myself,” he smiled gently; it fading when the pain shown in those ageless brown eyes were not easily persuaded.

Ruki knew the current topic was putting the witch in more pain than he could deal with, it wasn’t a light topic and it definitely one not to overlook. The thing was he had found himself craving the elder blonde for years. Years where he grew older and Reita stayed the same. One of these years, one of his hunts could very well be his last and Reita, while he could experience death, the man would merely wake up as if it was some horrible nightmare.

“You can’t keep living in fear of-”

“Don’t,” Reita ordered firmly. Eyes flashing when he stared hard into hazel eyes, shaking his head gravelly, “don’t. I’ve seen my family and friends die of old age, accidents or they were murdered. I don’t need you to tell me to live in the moment when I’m going to have to live with the memories of someone else’s last moments.”

Taking a deep breath and releasing slowly, he nodded. Smiling sadly and kissed Reita apologetically, “I’m sorry.”

“No, I’m sorry,” he shook his head sadly. “I just know that I’ll regret this.”

“Will you ever tell me?” Ruki whispered softly, “Why you can’t die?”

“Maybe,” was Reita’s soft answer.

Things finally came to a head a few months later.

Walking through the dark park with Ruki, they were on their way home from dinner and a movie. The witch chuckled softly when the hunter made a joke about the movie. Looking over at the grinning face of Ruki, he put an arm around the small shoulders; bury his nose into the mass of soft locks.

After their first and only night together, they were closer; practically inseparable.

Suddenly stopping in their walk and Reita made the shorter face him. The witch gazed deep into those hazel eyes that looked back at him in confusion, with a deep breath; he leaned in and kissed him. Arms automatically came up around his neck and Reita held Ruki closer.

“This is just sick,” a voice sneered.

Backing the taller off right away, the young blonde hunter shielded the other from the person coming out of the shadows. Ruki peered through the darkness at the third person slowly coming towards them, he growled, “fuck off, hunter.”

The other man stopped with a slight frown, “you know what I am?”

“Of course,” he snapped, giving Reita another push away, “I’m a hunter as well. So, fuck off.”

“He’s a witch,” the man snarled. A dark gaze falling on the blonde behind the hunter, the knife in hand was slowly twirled, “and witches deserved to have their throats slit.”

Taking a hold of his own weapon, he gave the man another warning, “if you don’t fucking walk off right now, I’ll gut you like the fucking coward you are.”

“Ruki,” Reita shook his head.

“Shut up,” he snapped at the man behind him.

Grabbing the strawberry blonde by the shoulder, he tried to pull him away, “Ruki, don’t do this. It’ll draw attention if you kill another hunter.”

The man laughed loudly, catching the attention of the two, “that’s just sad. Because, let me tell you, I’ll have no problem killing either one of you.”

Ignoring the hunter, he again gave the younger a tug, “Ruki, let’s just go.”

Shaking off the hand angrily, Ruki turned and shoved the witch away, “shut the fuck up, Reita! Let me handle this-”’

It took a fraction of a second for Reita to react as the man came charging. Shoving Ruki out of the way as the heavy body tackled him; he and the hunter fell to the ground. Rolling them over, he threw a few punches to the burlier guys face, gasping when a fist connected with his ribs and he was thrown to the side easily.

Grunting sharply when his entire head snapped to the side and there was the distinct taste of blood in his mouth. The blonde dug his boot into the stomach of the larger body and tossed the body over him with all the strength he had. Rolling over with a hand held out, a flick of his wrist and roots came up from the ground, entangling the man.

Dropping the hand with a gasp, Reita took a moment to calm himself and in blink of an eye, he was next to Ruki. Helping the younger to his feet, he inspected the face for any marks, “you alright?”

“Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” Ruki snorted. Dusting his clothes quickly, he picked his knife off the ground and looked at the hunter, “he’s working for your coven, Reita.”

“I know,” he nodded, taking the hand firmly, “we need to go.”

Looking at the witch in disbelief, he yanked his hand from the hold, “no, we have to take care of him. If we don’t he’ll-”

“Ruki, no,” the elder snapped, “we’re not killing him. Let’s go.”

“Damn it Reita,” he kept arguing, “if we don’t get rid of him now, he’s going to find us again! We have to-”

“We are not killing him!” Reita screamed at the top of his lungs, “I will not be like my coven. I will not kill.”

Blinking shocked at what he had just said; the witch stared almost horrified at the other. Suddenly, Ruki was flung back and then, Reita was flying through the air; slamming back against a large oak tree.  Dropping to the ground with a sharp gasp, he slowly rolled over onto his stomach, seeing Ruki several feet away from him.

Getting to his knees, Rieta’s body immediately felt like it weighed a ton and slammed back against the dewy grass, pinning him to his spot. Grunting, he tried to force himself back to his knees, only again to slam back against the grass. The witch was pinned to his spot.

Struggling, against whatever it was, he called for the younger, “Ruki!”

“Reita!” he heard the pained cry.

The blonde struggled even harder, “Ruki!”

“Now, now, you really should calm down,” a woman laughed breathily, “struggling only makes it worse and you know this.”

A cold fear washed up in Reita as he was now staring up at a black haired woman he used to call mother; the head witch that took him in. She had found him; his coven had found him. The fear multiplying when he heard Ruki fighting; they were going to kill him.

Reita shook his head in desperation, “don’t. Please-mother, don’t hurt him.”

The woman scowled at the pathetic plea, “you’re such a petulant child. How dare you tell me what to do; when I took you in and taught you everything. How dare you run out on this coven; on this family, I had given you!”

There was another pained cry and Ruki’s body was dropped five feet from him. Reita again started to struggle, it amusing the head witch as she walked steadily towards the strawberry blonde. She wrenched the knife away from the hunter.

“Don’t you fucking touch him!” he snarled, fighting even harder against the spell. “Don’t touch him!”

“Look at him Reita,” she ordered sweetly. Taking a handful of Ruki’s hair and raising his head with a pleased smile, “look at him and watch the light fade from his eyes. Look at him and see what you left your real family for!”

“I didn’t leave because of him,” Reita hissed at the woman.

“You were the youngest of the coven, I suppose it was only natural that you’d want to come out into the world,” the woman smiled. Looking down at the man, she gave him a shake, “but, a hunter. I thought being out on your own, you’d have learned why they’re our enemies, Reita.”

Snarling softly at the pained expression, he again tried to shove himself to his knees. Seeing her grip Ruki around the throat and began to choke the younger. It pushed him to try even harder and he finally got to his knees, still fighting until he managed a foot.

“If a weak, pathetic mortal is what you want Reita,” she started, now smirking at the hunter. The head witch slowly placed the tip of the blade to the middle of Ruki’s stomach, her smirk widening, “then a mortal is what you'll get.”

“No!” a scream tore from the blonde.

The knife sunk into Ruki’s midsection with a sharp gasp and his body began to quiver. There was a soft cry when the woman jerked the knife upward once, then again and again. The strawberry blonde’s voice choked with pain and with one last jerk of the blade, the younger breathed one last breath.

All the young witch could do was watch in horror as the body of the hunter dropped to the ground lifeless. The knife still protruded from the body, covered in blood. Reita turned his head away at the sight; sadness, anger and guilt welling up inside of him.

“Now,” the woman huffed, turning back to the blonde, “we can either do this the easy way or I can slit your throat and then, take you home.”

When she didn’t receive an answer or even a retort, she looked to a few other witches. A jerk of her head and they went towards the blonde, releasing him of her power, “chain him up.”

Reita’s movements were quick. Shoving the witches off of him and slamming the head witch against a tree, snarling at her. A hand tightening around the throat of the woman, furious with the smile and soft laughter, he slammed her once more against the tree.

He released her as he felt hands on him; he whirled around, taking one of the other witches by the throat and slamming him into the ground. A hand shot out in front of him and flung another through the air. Gasping as a blast hit him in the back, it barely fazing him as he turned. Eyes flashing red and the surrounding bodies of witches erupted into an inferno.

Facing back to the woman, he again lifted her off the ground, pinning her against the tree. There, in blue eyes, was fear.

“Reita,” her voice wavered when the hand around her throat tightened. Choking on her voice, she clawed at the hand desperately, “Rei-ta.”

“Shut up,” his voice came out dark and menacing.

“St-Stop,” she cried pitifully.

“Fuck you,” Reita snarled, slamming her back against the body. “Fuck you!”

Squeezing her eyes shut, she focused on the knife a few away. Powers faltering when the grip tightened even more and she was suffocating; the witch tried again. The fallen blade flew into her hand, it coming too late. Eyes snapped open, a silent scream died on her tongue when the young witch thrust a knife into her stomach and then, pulled it out.

The black haired woman stared horrified at the blonde as leaned away slightly. The elder witch slumped against the tree with a soft voice, “you… killed us all… for him?”

“Yes.”

Grunting out in sudden shock and pain, he shoved away from the woman. Slowly looking down and finding a knife sticking out from his side. Slowly, he took the hilt in a firm hold and pulled it out with sharp cry and pressed a hand to the gushing wound.

Breathing becoming labor, beads of perspiration formed on his brow. Reita staggered backwards, further away from the tree. The young witch lifted his gaze to stare at the head witch. In that moment, he couldn’t feel anything for what he did; he felt practically dead.

“Reita,” the woman called softly, “Don’t; don’t leave me like this.”

Shaking the weariness from his eyes, he answered monotonously, “I’m not.”

Eyes flashing red once more, the entire tree lit up in flames. The woman’s screeching scream filled the night air.

Groaning in pain, Reita began to cough harshly. Pressing the other hand to his mouth, he felt the warm liquid coming up and he coughed even harder. Staggering as lightheadedness hit him. Giving another shake of his head, he went towards the body of Ruki, dropping to the ground.

Reaching out and caressing the pale face, smearing some of his blood, Reita pulled away. Blinking back the tears, he forced himself back to his feet. Wanting to say something, but, there was no point. He turned and staggered out of the park, leaving the bodies and gore behind.

Managing to find his way back to the apartment, Reita shut the door and slid down it. The knife he had still held, it dropped from his grasp onto the floor with a thud.

It was becoming harder and harder to breath. His vision was graying out at the edges as he stared up at nothing. The pain though, it had begun to dull. Then he felt his body begin to tilt and he hit the floor, his vision blurring then darkening.

One soft breath, two and then, a long drawled breath; the body went limp.

There were flashes of faces.

Faint sounds of voices and laughter.

Blood curdling screams; fires.

And then, there was a smile. Bright hazel eyes; a kiss, a soft touch and then, black.

A loud gasp escaped the body arch off the ground.

Rolling onto his side, gasping in short breaths as his lungs began to work again. He squeezed his eyes shut as the rush of air shocked his body. It taking him minutes before he was able to ride out the shock of coming back to life.

Choking and gagging as the contents of his stomach came it up. It sounding painful and forced as he tried to get what was coming back up out of his body. Heaving and heaving until finally, a bright red dime sized rock came up from his stomach, though his throat and out his mouth.

Inhaling one last deep breath, he tiredly opened his eyes and stared at the small rock. Pushing his sore body up, shaking off the light headed feeling still washing over him, he took the small rock. Rolling it between his fingers and let it settle in the middle of his palm. Right away, it turned into a red powder.

Shutting his eyes tightly, Reita let his head drop back; another person gone right in front of his eyes and another morning sunrise.
