They say that it’s always easy to detect when something is wrong with somebody, but in my case, I could never tell. Whether it was when my mother was feeling ill, or when my dog had a sore stomach, I could never tell because I just didn’t have these types of instincts. But, despite this lack of instinct, I knew something was wrong with Sungmin. I knew it and it needed to be solved.

“What’s wrong?” I asked him on the phone, not bothering with small talk such as ‘how are you’. It wasn’t necessary therefore was not asked.

“What do you mean?”

“You are acting strange. What’s going on?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Hyuk.” He said, using my nickname as a term of endearment.

“Yes you do! Minnie, you’ve been acting all weird and shit. Just tell me what’s up!”

The other end of the phone went silent for a few seconds and I could tell he was contemplating whether or not he could tell me.

“I can’t...” came his answer and I cursed in my head, huffing as I did so.

“Yes, yes you can. Come on, Minnie, just tell me what’s going on.” I said in what I liked to call my ‘baby-voice’.

“I can’t, Hyuk, I’m sorry...” He trailed off before a click was heard and the dial-tone blared in my ears.

“Bitch!” I outraged and Donghae chose that moment to walk into the bedroom.

“Don’t swear like that, my parents may hear you.” We were both quiet for a moment before breaking out in syncing laughter. He lied down on the next to me and put his head on my lap; my hand was quick to stroke his scalp, massaging it with my fingernails.

“Do you think they heard us?” I asked and his eyes looked into mine before he laughed easily.

“Yes, they heard us. They were asking what the noise was....”

I gasped, “What did you say?!”

“That you had a nightmare about your mother. I don’t think they fell for it.” He looked worried and I bent my head to press my lips against his lightly, his hand gripping my neck pulling me closer to him. I eased away from him and kissed his forehead, the skin soft against my dry lips.

“Min, come on. This is crazy. We’re best friends!” I pleaded to Sungmin quietly as the teacher ranted on and fucking useless shit that I didn’t need to know about.

“Eunhyuk, fuck off.”

“Fuck off? Minnie, you never speak to me like this!”

“I’ll talk to you later okay?”

“What are you doing here?” Sungmin asked his friend, and he shrugged.

“Were you watching?” Kyuhyun asked the other, tucking his arm around Sungmin protectively. He felt very overpowered by his very own friend. Which wasn’t normal, not for Cho Kyuhyun at least.

“I wasn’t doing anything.” Their friend answered, the lack of lights not showing his body, making it hard for the two to figure out whether or not he was lying.

“Then why are you here?” Sungmin repeated his question. He didn’t answer for a few seconds which just furthered their suspicion.

“I was seeing what was going on. I heard noises.”

“Noises? What noises?” Kyuhyun asked. The questions were alternating and they could tell their friend was on the edge of spilling.

“I heard strange noises.”

“So you thought you’d check it out?” Sungmin’s turn.

“Yes.”

Sungmin and Kyuhyun were both silent as they both looked at their friend.

“Whatever.” I rolled my eyes as he turned his head back, not even having the decency to look at me.

The day was filled with monstrous glances in my direction from Kibum which wasn’t helping my mission what so ever. Every time I got about 20 feet away from Sungmin, the bitch would harshly stare at me as if he wanted me dead. And yet, even though I was now used to these glances, they still continued to make me shiver. But, I needed to know what was wrong with my best friend. I couldn’t lose my best friend.

“Sungmin.” I spoke lowly and kept my eyes glued to his. “I need to know what is going on. You know you can tell me anything - no matter how insignificant you feel it may be. Please, Sungmin.”

He looked me with stone eyes that didn’t give anything away.

“You’re such a creep.” Kyuhyun said, not feeling any remorse for his friend. “You clearly knew what the noises were.”

“No, I didn’t.” Was the friend’s reply.

“Yes, you did. Then, you just thought you would ‘check it out’. Check it out, my ass. We know your feelings for him.” Sungmin said.

“What are you talking about?”

“I am talking about your stares in the cafeteria. The way you look at him when nobody is looking. Your harsh stares to Eunhyuk. All because of him.”

“Who?”

“You know who I’m talking about.”

Their friend averted his eyes momentarily, and Kyuhyun and Sungmin could tell he was thinking of a way out of this.

“Leave them alone.” Kyuhyun said.

“I really wish I could, Eunhyuk, you know I do. But, he’s our friend.”

“And I’m your best friend! Please, Sungmin. Don’t do this.”

“I’m sorry...I...I’ve got to go.” He said before be ran off into the crowd, the back of his head no longer in my view. Fuck.

“Hey monkey.” I heard Donghae say from behind me, his hands finding their place on my hips perfectly.

“Hello.” I sighed, thinking about Sungmin. If only he could trust me; would it hurt him so much to confine in me? If he can’t, and he is my best friend, then nobody can’t.

“I was only joking! You’re my monkey.” He smiled as he turned me around to face him. I smiled briefly.

“It isn’t you. It’s Sungmin.”

“Still?”

“Still.” I repeated before I felt somebody glare at me, their eyes burning into my back. Donghae looked up over my shoulder as if he felt it also. His face was unreadable, and my face was growing with more and more curiousity.

Kibum. His gaze was deadly, as if he could kill me with his own eyes. I stared straight back at him; something clicked.

It was Kibum.
