 'Ello, Ls!

I've been lurking about for awhile, but I now actually have reason to post. Based on the current results of the 'what new character should I apply for?' poll in my journal, I'm about to start playing L. XD It's been a long time coming, but with my partner in crime threatening to pick up Light, I just can't help myself.

So now I've got ( Read more... )

For your consideration:

Journal name: meta_l
Occupation: pastry chef
How to write his thoughts: Depends on how clearly you have his motivations down and how well you write in general. (Translating your thoughts into communicable English.) Which is my way of saying, "Hopefully it will come with time".

Just do what you're comfortable with-- if you don't want to make a decision right away, there's no rush to! Figure out what you really want to do with him! (I'm a big fan of doing things tongue-in-cheek, so I'd set things more along that path (to his dismay). Others may try for something more serious, or close to his canon standing. Either way works!)

His character really comes with time-- it took months (and a serial murder case) to get a real feel for him. Reading/watching canon helps! Take your tie with tags, toss a few ideas around, and go for what seems to be most in line with what he'd say/think/do...as you see it! Everyone reads a character through their own personal filter, and the resulting picture can be very, very interesting~. And, last but not least, there's this community! Because we're all always freaking the hell out that we're Doing It Wrong. We're all a little neurotic about it....and that's why we play L! XD Hope that helps!

One thing I think helps starting out is remembering that L is a thinker and more than just a mass of quirks. It helps to get him a job. Not necessarily a paying job in a typical sense but more a goal; something for him to work towards. When he's working then you as a player have more to work with and a better opportunity to get into his head. But don't throw yourself straight in to any intense plots if you'd rather test the waters first.

And, of course, for your "bouncing around ideas" needs? We're here. Most of us are always trying to figure out L. It takes time. Just have fun with him and the muse comes more easily. *thumbs up*

Preaching to the choir, there. :3 I for some reason seem to specialize in playing the really intelligent and/or cerebral characters. L's quirks are really the icing on the metaphorical strawberry cake, but when push comes to shove he's another nerd thinker to add to my collection.

Giving him an overarching goal will be hard given the random, crack-filled nature of the RP I'm throwing him into, but I have decided that while Ryuzaki is out in the community, he'll be continuing to act as L behind the scenes. Which is great, because the police force in this place is a hot mess. XD

I do the same--creating a difference between "L" and "Ryuzaki" though people still all know the great detective is Ryuzaki (I am the fourth L where I play him and the first to bother with aliases so older characters remember). It's hard to pull off but when it works it is so rewarding. Good luck~!

Four? Wow. That's...quite a few. XD I'll be the second, myself, but we reset characters when they get dropped and picked up by someone else.

Thanks! :3
