I hate that we humans are such social creatures. I just fucking lost the last person on Earth I would ever consider my friend. Now I have no one.  Just a careless father,an overpowering mother and a brother I can only relate to when he's having one of his emotional episodes.

Russia did this experiment in the early 1900's (it would never be allowed now) about human's inherent need for social interaction. They divided infants into two groups; one that was exposed to interaction. They were held, coddled, feed regularly, interacted with other infants, etc. The other group was put in a dark room and their only exposure to interaction was when they were fed or had their diapers changed (both done with gloves). The first group of infants thrived (as well as one can in 1900's Russia) and the second group ended up refusing food until they starved to death, bashing their heads against cribs, or just dying of unclear causes. Pretty fucked up.
Sorry, that's hugely depressing but it's always the first thing I think of when people talk about humans as social creatures.
