This may sound crazy, but it and Miracle-GRO gave my grandparents the best gorram tomatoes I've ever seen. They would put a small tire around each tomato plant. The dark rubber would heat up and keep the plant warm and hold moisture in the rim so that the very local humidity around the plant was higher. Of course, you didn't want standing water in the tires as that would lead to mosquitoes, so you'd pour them out whenever they'd get water in them.

They would pull the tires off during the hot summer, but when it was cold they'd put the tires down and had awesome 'hot tire' tomatoes. ^_^
