today i visited the laundromat and received my bi-weekly exposure to pop culture via mtv on the laundromat televisions. there seems to be an overwhelming penchant for the singers in music videos to be running. shot after shot after shot of them running-- running towards the camera, away from the camera... even running around the camera (that one ( Read more... )

1. To keep the low body fat percentages that they do, singers run. A lot. So running is the 2nd hobby of all of your popular singer/actors--since they have to convince themselves they love it so they make time for it.
2. The pop star is running around constantly. They always feel like they are running to keep up with the next trends, in shape, or to find fame. And BECAUSE they are running around all the time trying to be the politician so they can be the POPULAR star, life is more about running than enjoying it.

So...the fast paced society combined with the "slightly underweight people look better in clothes" idea, the running is the theme.

I hate running. I run. Heh. But with my mirror in front of the treadmill (it just worked out that way) it makes me feel better since I feel like I'm getting somewhere.

hmmm. avril lavigne doesn't strike me as a jogger. neither does the emo-looking lead singer of switchfoot. i appreciate that you read some deep symbolism into the on-screen running-- i did the same when i saw anthony kiedis (lead singer of red hot chili peppers) running on screen in the "under the bridge" video. then i realized they had him do that to show off his muscles. ;)

xo.m.
