I just got to thinking:  I'm interested to know when my friends got interested in BSG.

Comment below to organize yourselves, will you?   And, if you feel like it, tell us your story...

You discovered BSG back when it first aired in 2006.

Very similar to this, one of my best friends sat me down and said, "Do not watch this series, you will die of heart and soul."

So I did.

Now I'm here.

And I can't say she was wrong.

I forgot 2003- 2005! And you were an early bird, pal!
I love Firefly, too... Was there anything else your friend suggested?

I started watching in summer 2007 after a few friends of mine from the 24 fandom convinced me to give it a go. They tricked me into watching High Society (I was a huge Jean Smart fan) and I loved Mary McDonnell in it, so decided to give BSG a shot. As that was nearly four years ago and I'm still here, I suppose it paid off! ;)

Wow. It would have been about 3-3.5 years ago. I was either pregnant with Trevor or had him when I saw the miniseries, because Cap6's snapping of the baby's neck did NOT go over well with me. I know I watched The Ties that Bind when he was 6 months old, and we watched it nightly for a while. So, it's been about 3 to 3.5 years!

Hubby made me watch the miniseries because he loved the original, and I got hooked pretty quickly. Although I didn't get fannish/ficcy until season 4.5 was about to start.

I technically saw... three episodes before this, but I could only put the show on my "to-watch" list at the time. I officially started watching a month before season 4.0 began, so... late January? :)

Yes, in late 2008.
A grad student of mine persuaded me I should watch it, and loaned me the miniseries, and then, over the next few months, subsequent seasons up to 4.0. This grad student was my TA in Spring 2009 when the whole thing was ending, and I remember one student in the course wanted to write a paper on BSG that would include details from the finale. I had to get the grad student to grade it, because I hadn't caught up yet. I missed 4.5 when it first aired, and waited for it to come out on DVD... Bought myself the box set of everything for Xmas 2010 and started rewatching. I still haven't seen the last episodes. But I thought the whole thing was even better second time around. I'd always loved Adama and Roslin, but with the second viewing I found out the meaning of "shipping" and started writing fanfic.

I started watching in March of 2008, during the haitus between 4 & 4.5.

I watch from the mini via DVD until the end of 4.5 (oh, the Hub!) in a couple of weeks. And then realized that I was going to have to wait 9 months for the finale eps.

Then I discovered Survival Instinct and there was much rejoicing.

Me! I started watching around the time Season 4.0 was airing, but I didn't catch up until the hiatus. Then I was able to catch up with 4.0 online and was all set when 4.5 started.

I started watching in August of 2009. I had just started a new job and some of my new coworkers highly recommended it. I actually downloaded the mini and the first season. A few eps into the first season I just had to buy the whole series on dvd because I knew I'd love it!

That's me! I'd always been intending to watch it, because I loved Lucy Lawless from Xena, but I was afraid I'd be bored until she showed up and I didn't have the time to dedicate to a new show. I finally started getting the DVDs from Netflix either late 09 or early 10 and got caught up. I loved D'Anna, but it was Laura Roslin who really caught my attention. And then I needed more of her awesomeness and the epic love with Bill in my life, so I found my way into fandom.

That's me. January 2010, actually. I picked up the DVDs just after Christmas and got addicted very quickly. Adored Laura from the first scene I saw her in, and then started getting interested in all the other characters too, but Laura's ma girl, always and forever.

And I think I jumped into fandom fairly quickly. I was really interested to see what other peopel thought of Laura, because I'm very used to loving characters who are absolutely hated by the rest of fandom, and so I was thrilled and delighted to discover that she was one of the more popular characters in BSG and that there was a ton of awesome fic and fascinating meta written about her. I actually think that's a big part of why I stuck around - it's great to be able to talk about a character I adore with other people who feel the same way, and that's not actually something that happens to me very often.

I got the mini and the first half of season 1 from Netflix around mid-2010 and was totally hooked so I sprung for the Bluray DVD set. I'm actually glad I came late to BSG because I lost a good friend to breast cancer in 2007 and the dying Laura storyline would have been a bit much for me at the time.
