I loved the Housekeeper. What was the color of the car about? I always imagine red having to do with passion and maybe when she realized she did want him to stay the car they bought together turned back to that color, I could be way way off. It seemed like you modeled the protagonist a bit after yourself. Not that you're obtrusive at all, just I could see you in him. Quiet and all. Either way, great story. Reminds me a bit of Hemingway.
You're right about the color of the car - it was green (the color of jealousy) to the woman and, later, to the man when he's washing the dishes, but she eventually sees the car as red and it brought her closer to him like you said.
