Blaine stepped out of the terminal, hitching his duffle bag higher on his shoulder. The flight had been long and tiring and there had been a baby behind him who had been really disturbed by the turbulence. It had been his first flight without his parents and he never really realized how much his mom did on flights, including generously allowing him to use her shoulder as a pillow.

As excited as he was to see his brother, Blaine couldn’t help but feel like his parents were sending him away because they couldn’t deal with him anymore. He had come out as gay at the beginning of the summer, right after he’d graduated middle school. Three weeks later, after flat expressions and cold brush-offs, he’d been presented with a round-trip ticket to Los Angeles. Maybe they thought hanging out with his straight-as-an-arrow brother would make him come to his senses.

Really, Blaine was just excited for Disneyland.

He moved out of the way of the other passengers, glancing around to see if Cooper was waiting there. There was always a chance that he’d forgotten the flight arrival time.

“Blainers!”

He turned and saw his brother grinning and pointing straight at him. Blaine adjusted his duffle before shuffling over to him. “Hey Coop,” he said, nodding.

Cooper widened his eyes and shook his finger a little in Blaine’s face, but otherwise did not move, grin still plastered firmly in place.

“Cooper.”

His brother stood still, waiting for something.

“Oh my God, Cooper.” Very deliberately and slightly exasperated, Blaine raised an arm and pointed right at the other man. “Hi Cooper.”

Cooper relaxed and slung an arm around Blaine’s shoulders, leading him to the luggage area. “So how is Blainey Baby?”

“Oh God, Coop,” Blaine said, pulling a hand over his face. “Could you maybe not call me that? I’m not a kid anymore.”

“You’re still my baby bro, bro.”

“Cooper, please, I’m begging you. Don’t call me that. That’s not my name.”

“What about Baby Blaine?”

“Nope, not that either.”

The first year of high school came in like a lion and went like a lamb. One moment he was speed-walking through the halls trying to find his class and the next he was finishing up his last final exam and walking through the double doors of his school into the summer sun.

Cooper was home for a visit. He said he missed them but Blaine’s pretty sure Cooper’s pissed off his agent and is giving her some space to forgive him. He hasn’t had any work since those ridiculous musical commercials.

Blaine walked off the bus, a new development in his life since starting high school, and through his gate. As he passed through his front door, he paused, measuring himself against his mailbox. It had become a habit after he noticed how often he had to look up at his friends these days. No change.

He checked the pairs of shoes lined up at the door. His mother’s high heels were there, as well as his father’s regular shoes. Next to his father’s dress shoes were his brother’s fake Italian wing-tips. Blaine sighed, toeing off his sneakers. He’d hoped Cooper had been out today.

He could hear Cooper banging around in the kitchen and found him peeling open a box of stove-top macaroni and cheese. “Hey Blainey! Look!” Cooper gestured wildly to the blue box. “Just like old times, hey, Squirt?”

Blaine levelled a glare at his older brother, craning his neck to look straight into his eyes.

“Whoa, little bro. You okay?”

Blaine turned, gripping the straps of his backpack tightly in his fists. “I’m not hungry,” he mutters before making his way up the stairs and to his bedroom.

“Wait, little bro! Mom said you had to eat! Squirt!”

Blaine shut his door so hard that the poster frames on his door rattled. “That’s not my name.”

Cooper lifted his hand and pointed, “there!” imagining Decepticons flying down from the sky. He fashioned a gun from his fingers and pretended to shoot the incoming aliens before falling to the ground. Unfortunately, due to their single camera, Cooper had to film the different dramatic angles by shifting his body around. Overall, Blaine thought it was pretty good.

Blaine turned off the camera, grinning. “I think that was a good take,” he said, holding out his hand to Cooper for a high five.

“Me too,” Cooper replied, slapping his hand before shaking out his wrists. “The tornado definitely helped on that one.”

“I agree,” Blaine said. “I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical in your master class, but now that I’ve seen it in action, I’m a believer.”

“Do you think Michael Bay will like it?”

“Yeah, Coop. You’re a shoo-in for the role. You’re the perfect Deputy Roscoe.”

“Thanks.” Cooper sighed before pulling Blaine down with him to sit against the wall. “It’s too bad I have to go back. It was nice to be here.”

“It was nice to have you here.”

“Your friends are nice. And Kurt, too.”

Blaine felt a silly grin erupt on his face. “Kurt’s pretty great.”

Cooper reached out a hand to flick the collar of his hoodie. “You could stand to dress yourself, though, you know.”

“Hey,” Blaine protested, batting Cooper’s hand away. “I picked this out myself. Besides, Kurt’s got great style. He’s very fashion forward.”

Cooper’s brow furrowed. “Wasn’t he wearing a skirt in that prom photo you sent me?”

“It was a kilt that he made himself. And it’s very popular among the men of Scotland.” Blaine held Cooper’s gaze until Cooper conceded, shrugging amicably.

“Whatever, I still say you should pick your own clothes out.”

“I do!”

They fell into companionable silence before

“Thanks for all your help,” Cooper said. “I don’t deserve it after how I treated you.”

“Water under the bridge,” Blaine said, patting Cooper on the knee. “We’re closer now, right? We’ve gotten past those issues.”

Cooper smiled and slung an arm over Blaine’s shoulders. “Not just brothers, right?”

“Friends too.”

“I love you, Blaine,” Cooper said.

Blaine tilted his head onto Cooper’s shoulder, smiling to himself. “I love you too, Cooper.”
