God damn it legend of the seeker. I still can't get over how deceptive this show is! Just when I think they're done chewing on their subtext they start it up all over again. I mean, I know part of this is me reading in what I want to, but the fact that the showrunners actually deal with some of the implications of the world they've set up ( Read more... )

OMG I LOVE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS YESSSS. Cara is literally perfect. LITERALLY.
omg the show is pretty absent of straight up horrific rape, unlike the books (THANKS TG), but it is filled with what is OBVIOUSLY but subtle in the eyes of the unthinking: completely creeptastic noncon rape nonsense that bleeds through so many people. I have HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGEEEEEEEEEEEE FUCKING ISSUES with Richard and his dad - this happens in later episode. But yeah, excellent point as to how Kahlan could even deal with her sexuality with the upbringing she had. ugh i need a rewatch

also.: CARA.

CARA. Oh my god Cara. What was my life before her. The bit where she and Kahlan were trapped together and confessing their friendship---ALL MY TEARS. omg. They both lost sisters and maybe they found them again ;_;

The thing that is so brilliant is as you said, the sublimation of TG's rape plots into this wide reaching, well, rape culture. I keep staring at this show and wondering if I'm making all this up in my head or if this is actually happening. Because it's brilliant.

I think I'm watching the ep with Richard's dad now!

Having watched the ep with Richard's dad---yeah, no. I appreciate where they were trying to go with that, but I do not appreciate that they threw Taralyn under the bus to do it >:(
