Please tell me what you think, especially if I got the characterization right, if it is an interesting read at all and if you have any ideas how I can do better. Aaaalso do you want to see more people than Sweden and Norway in this fic, or should it stay only them two?
First chapter:
Friday It was late when Norway woke up. Or early, depending on whom you asked. Sweden had been up for one hour already, taken the dog out on a walk and bought them breakfast at the gas station around the corner. Denmark, if he had been at home, would probably have reasoned that it was Saturday and only not turned around and went back to sleep the straight way because he'd have tried to make Norway join him ("Don't be lame like Sweden and get up already).
The young man yawned as he got up and looked over at the other side of the bed, where from he'd hear some half-hearted complains on a normal morning, about it being too cold to get up or too early. And about how Norway should come back and then he'd reach over to tug him back under the covers and Norway would kick him in the face and tell him that no, he needs his coffee.
And he'd find the coffee ready on the kitchen table, sure as clockwork, and never question it, it was too convenient.
He had thought that not waking up to his boyfriend's antics would be a good thing, but as he shuffles towards the kitchen and yawns, all he can feel is ...emptiness. The whole flat seemed foreign without any sounds, and had America been here, he would have been shaking in his boots while loudly denying that there were any ghosts around.
The only sounds that broke the silence were the occasional drip-dropping sound from the still leaking sink, and the far away sound of traffic from outside the window.
"Good morn'ng." His heart skipped a beat at the sudden intrusion into the absolute silence, and he nearly whirled around. Nearly. Years with their oldest had taught him to hardly show any reaction to being startled, since it only encouraged Denmark.
After a moment, he turned around slowly, cool eyes fixed on the boy sitting on the couch, a book in his lap. "Good mornin'."
Sweden placed the book that he had been reading - something about bees, and Norway remembered that Finland had told him that the tall boy was thinking about becoming a beekeeper when school was out - on the armrest of the couch and looked back at him. "Good morn'ng." And then, words picked as carefully as they always were, even about the most mundane things: "Coffee 's 'n the green pot."
Norway nodded and moved on to the kitchen.
---
In the evening, Norway went out to meet up with some friends. He hadn't done that in months, not without Denmark around, and they had agreed on now being the time for it. Sweden even had dropped him of in front of the bar, reasoning (quite accurately) that he would not be able to drive home by himself anyway if he was meeting up with England and Russia.
Sweden returned back home, worked a bit on the paper that he had to hand in the next week, took the dog out for a walk, and then returned home to start to clean up in an attempt to stay awake and lucid until midnight despite being alone in the house.
It was strange, to not come home to anyone. Even when Iceland spent the night with friends, which he did quite a lot as of lately (Sweden guessed that it was some kind of rebellious phase or another part of late puberty, the part where the boy had no parents being a serious problem when it came to the part where you try to oppose them), and when Norway and Denmark had gone out to some party, Finland would be there, sometimes have his best friend or Sealand over, sometimes just alone. Sometimes already asleep. But there.
And yesterday night, Norway had been there, in another room after they had said goodnight and went to bed, but still there.
Now... he frowned and stood up, throwing an empty box of crackers into the waste bin. He sounded like Denmark, back when Sweden had decided that they had to stop sharing a bed now or they would never get to sleep at any given day. Too much fighting. Then he had consequently moved his blanket over to the couch and camped out there until Finland had found out about that and they had ended up sharing a bed. Sweden hadn't had any objections to that at all.
He had also pledged to never become anything like Denmark, and here he was... He looked around the room. Everything was in order, the next step would be hoovering the place, but that would have to wait until the next day, considering the time of the day and the fact that they had neighbours.
The only thing that he could do now was getting himself a good book and wait until it turned quarter past eleven, and then drive over to the next city where the bar was and wait outside until he either got a call from the barkeeper, or the trio was kicked out. Considering that Russia was one of them, he guessed the former. Nobody kicked Russia out of nowhere. Not even if it was a bar after closing hours.
A/N time:
[-Norway, England and Russia all have access to the supernatural in different ways. And sometimes it is just nice to not be the only one.]
[Coffee:
Norway: Black, triple strong
Denmark: Lots of sugar
Sweden: Regular black
Finland: Lots of milk
Iceland: Black, but when nobody looks a lot of milk and sugar is added]
[Relations:
-Denmark&Sweden as well as Norway&Iceland are brothers. Finland is Den's and Sve's adoptive brother.
-Denmark&Norway have been a couple since they met in their first year of high school. They have separate beds, but share one more often than not.
-Sweden&Finland have been courting since Sweden spotted the new kid in the nursery, but only hooked up in their third year of high school. They only have one bed for both of them, but that is a long story and started to be that way long before they started dating.
-Iceland has his puffin. He also has a boyfriend, but the only one who knows about that is Sweden because he can keep a secret and Norway must not know about this. I doubt that this will come up, but the boyfriend is Hong Kong.
-Denmark, Sweden and Norway are in their second year of college, Finland in his first, Iceland is in his second year of high school.
-Sealand is a elementary student that is in a mentoring project for children from problematic families. The official mentor is Sweden, but in reality it is the whole household. Denmark sometimes claims that if Floweregg is Fin's, Puffin Ice's and the troll Nor's pet, and Sealand is Sweden's, he wants a pet, too.
Aaaaand a TMI relationship fact:
-Denmark&Norway have a lot more sex than Sweden&Finland. Sweden just likes to cuddle 99% of the time, and Finland's sex drive isn't as strong as Denmark's, either, though still stronger than Sweden's. But he has by now learned to make it clear when he'd like to.]
