I've said it before and I've said it again: the entire point of Professor Layton is to introduce some sort of mystery that can only be explained through magic, have the characters say “oh no we're too British to believe in that” and have it turn out that the truth is something even more insane and impossible. Serial killer? No, it's robots. Vampires? Of course not, you were just unbelievably high on a substance that doesn't exist. It's like Occam's Razor works in reverse in their universe.
And you has been proven right. I shall never doubt your understanding of the Laytons ever again.

You forgot to mention how Future London just a model underground because time travel isn't real, except when it is. Time travel in PL-land must work like the bizarro-world version of peter pan faries, and only exist when there's no concrete proof of or belief in it.
I can't even imagine what the next games will be like, since the series seems to escalate in utter absurdity with each new installment.
"Seriously. I think the overall theme of Professor Layton’s adventures is like “Stuff Humans Really Shouldn’t Mess With - Go Solve Puzzles Instead of Messing With Those Things.”"
