Spade, used to describe a person, is a serious racial slur where I live. According to my dad, this is because the spade is traditionally black in color. So apparently the non-green/blue spade goes back relatively far, at least in the US.

I know that the vast majority of card decks are traditional french two-color decks with black spades/clubs and red diamonds/hearts; in fact, I've never seen a deck in person that didn't have black spades.

I didn't know about it being a racial slur, though. (D:) I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry!

I've never heard a young person use it, so it might be somewhat dated (but then, I don't make a habit of hanging out with racists anyway, so I don't really know what the hip slang is with them). ^^

I don't know what hip racist slang is either, and I don't want to. Two obnoxious kids (one white, one black) in my class who like to make racist jokes call each other "Moon Cricket" and "Jungle Bunny", but I have no idea if that's actual slang or something they made up themselves.
