[Robert's outside for once! Mostly because being exothermic and having a sudden desire to go into bodies of water are good reasons to do so. Even so, he's still hermit-ish thanks to social phobia (which is a bit exacerbated as a turtle) and is mostly looking down - which is why he notices the tiny, scuttling crab.
At first he doesn't hear Sayo's voice - but honestly, as an astrobiologist, Robert is very observant, and eventually he catches the soft strains of a panicking tone. Most crabs are incapable of vocalization, but...]
Ah, excuse me there... Would you happen to need some assistance? [He stoops, carefully, and offers his green, leathery, two-fingered hand as a platform. It's preferable to stepping on the cute little crab, at least.]
[Extremely gently, extremely carefully, Robert fixes the two giant green fingers of his right hand around Sayo's little thorax and deposits her gently in the palm of his other hand.
Then he lifts that hand up to his face.
He recognizes Sayo's voice, now that she's closer to his tympanic membranes.] ... Ah, I know you... well, not as a crab, obviously.
I am Professor Robert Alexander Hastings, if you... do not remember. [He remembers Sayo's memory problems, and while they may not be affecting her at the moment, he figures they might have been enough to affect her before then.]
Though I am usually a human, not a turtle; just like you are not usually a crab. Albeit you are a very beautiful specimen of crab, if I may say so. [He is completely serious when he says this. To his astrobiologist mind, all life is beautiful.]
Yes. A crab is an aquatic arthropod - part of the same group that encompasses insects, spiders, scorpions and the like. You seem to be one of the common small land crabs that exist in many parts of Terra-like planets.
At any rate, it is nothing to be afraid of. You are certainly not a monster. Just... very small. And it would be dangerous for you to be outside - crabs are easy prey for many opportunistic predators. It might be best for you to stay indoors for the majority of the experiment...
Is there anywhere you could have access to water while still being with somebody who could protect you? [Robert would offer himself... but he's kind of all over the place as of late. Still, he'd take care of Crab Sayo if she doesn't have anyone else who will. Sayo is such a nice person and deserves the assistance.]
Re: [Action]whats_a_crabMarch 29 2011, 10:06:23 UTC
[Wow, a lot of this is going right over her little crustacean head. But at least she gets the parts that matter.]
Oh, I just don't know where I should go. I could go home, but then... I'm not entirely sure what I should eat-and getting to my cabinets will certainly be a hassle...
Well, I could take you back to your home, and set up some sort of temporary terrarium or aquarium - probably a terrarium with a pond section for ease of access - and then contact a friend of yours to make sure that you have somewhere safe...
[There's a thoughtful pause as he studies Sayo. She is so small and fragile and downright adorable. It is triggering his paternal protective instincts very much, surprisingly... for once he isn't the weakest person around.]
The only problem would be if you were to reassume your human body while still inside the terrarium... so it should be large enough that it would not trap you within it. Perhaps a large basin, something the size of a bathtub... [And now Robert's brain is in full-on Thoughtful Scientist Mode. Any turtle instincts that might be saying to eat the suspiciously crayfish-like creature in his palm are being completely and summarily obliterated by said thought process.]
... At your size, you are going to have some trouble operating the journal systems, I would imagine.
Re: [Action]whats_a_crabMarch 30 2011, 08:03:57 UTC
Oh, I would appreciate that a lot, Robert-san! You don't have to go through all that trouble... [thought if you didn't, I'd probably get killed, b-but still.]
Perhaps we could set up my bathtub, to keep me in?
It is no trouble at all. You are simply in need of assistance - any ethical person would do this. [He smiles down at her - crab compound eyesight is quite excellent so hopefully she can make this out.]
That is an excellent idea, Ms. Sayo. Can you perhaps direct me to where you live so that I might take you there? Afterwards, I ought to contact somebody about keeping care of you in the meantime...
[Robert begins to carry the little crab out to the main square, looking for a decent reference point to begin walking from.] If you had had to get home yourself, I am certain you would be completely exhausted and desperately dehydrated... so you frankly need some assistance at this time. Which is alright. Nobody could blame you for it right now.
Re: [Action]whats_a_crabMarch 31 2011, 07:40:47 UTC
[She points a claw in the direction of home, and even offers him the number of the community building and the room--good ol' Room 1. Harder to lose track of, you see.]
I... I'm not sure who I should contact, though. I wouldn't want to bother them, with my little problems... But I think if you keep a little food and water in the bath, I should be alright to handle myself for at least a few days!
[She's the epitome of not wanting to bother people, you see. B|]
[Community Building Two - not too far from his own home, so in the event of an emergency, he can come assist her without killing his weak body in the process. This is a good thing to know.]
Ms. Sayo - you being in such a small, delicate body is hardly a "little" problem. I am certain that anybody who cares for and respects your bodily integrity would be more than willing to assist you at this time... and the experiments tend to last longer than a few days. I have heard of some lasting up to two weeks... Even if this is the standard one week experiment, you would still be very capable of dying of dehydration in that period, especially with your extremely small size and dependency on water to respirate. After all, you have gills now, as a crab - and even though land crab species are adapted to lower levels of water, their gills must still be moist for them to work.
[He continues carrying Sayo towards Community Building Two as he speaks, keeping a pace that's... well, as brisk as he can manage. Which isn't very brisk at all. He's also

Not a problem, Ms. Sayo. I remember the reason, after all, and that is certainly not your fault. [Robert carries Sayo directly to her room, letting himself in if he can - hopefully the door wasn't locked - and places her very gently on the nearest sturdy-looking solid surface, like a table.]
... Ginko? I don't believe I have ever spoken to a person with that name. But if you can give me his description, I will call him for you... [Robert places his journal in such a way that Sayo could look at the call list herself, if she wanted.]
In the meantime, I ought to find your bathtub and see about making it a decent habitat for you. [Robert is probably expecting a bathtub like Luceti has, so Sayo may need to clarify if she uses something else...
And don't worry about bothering Ginko, Sayo, you derp. <3]

Oh, yes please! I'd be very grateful!

It's... not much of an issue though. Even if we had not, this is something that would be ethical regardless.
[They might be getting close to the community building, now. Perhaps within eyesight of it.]
... Which are the people you are closest to here in the village? Is the other person from your world someone you would want to take care of you?

This one's him-he has white hair, and one green eye...
[She looks up to the turtle-guy, itching the side of her crabby head.]
It's just around the corner there!
[Fortunately, there's a tidy bathtub, yes!]
