There are any number of political groups that we really need to smash militarily, rather than decapitating. Plus, our enemies have an annoying habit of ensconcing themselves in orbital fortresses and/or being precognitive.

I'm with you on this one. When the Earth is nearly destroyed every other week, we can't rest too often.

At the same time, I'm not sure that thinking too little of ourselves is a good idea. What we're here for is to protect the people and ensure peace. In the end, that's the same even for someone ten galaxies tall.
