OK! So I think I have actually looked this guy up before and figured out what it was (based on a description given by a disgusted husband who had encountered one while working). But then I forgot again! So... I thought I would share and listen.

Found in the street after a rain in Tokyo.
About a foot and a half if straightened.
Dead.

Looks like a species of flatworm, also known as planarian worms. Can't place the exact species though since I've only ever seen flatworms here in the United States. Completely harmless though, kinda makes me sad to see it dead.

I though it was kind of sweet that it's head ...or tail (to the left on the full pic) was curled into a heart shape.

When I checked for it after work there was just a shimmery stain in the same shape, so it made a meal for some other creature at least.

I will only add a plug to my posts about the version found in the US, but I agree with the other commenter: terrestrial flatworm.

I hadn't known they got so shockingly long!

We just call them land planarians, but as neat looking as they are, they're a total nightmare when it comes to earthworms. These guys will happily mutilate and wipe out entire colonies of earthworms in no time.

They're still freaking neat though.
