I am alive. For good, this time. But I won't pinky swear that - no matter how sure I am, I cannot risk to break the bond of the pinky swear. In essence, this makes it useless and - yes - senseless, even.

Someone sidled up behind me, and my reaction (which I can blame only on human nature) was to grab my throat.
