Sleeptime psychology

For about the past ten years I've had a recurring dream. The common thread is that I am in college again. I am always my current age, with children, and when I was married I was also married in the dream. Sometimes I am there because I haven't actually FINISHED and have to complete some classes before I can get my diploma. (And for the record, ( Read more... )

I have that same dream--usually it focuses on realizing at the last second--or even when the semester is over--that I was signed up for one or more classes that I completely blew off. And I flunk the courses (of course). Or...more often...I end up trying to get incompletes instead.

It seems to me that these are "out of control" dreams--that they occur when significant elements of your life are out of control. So it makes sense that you'd be having these dreams.

The fact that you WEREN'T in class--and weren't being tested is interesting. It seems like a great sign--like you're starting all over. The people and classes are entirely new, and you can make of them what you will.

It would say to me that my future is wide open...

ME TOO! meliciousleigh February 11 2006, 01:31:48 UTC
I have that dream too! Only in my dream, in addition to having to take a test for a class I've never attended, I also seem to have left my shirt at home!

I agree with the littlejigman (he is, after all, the dream meister, so of course I do). That dream seems an indication that you are on the brink of something new and different, and the fact that you are setting things up, putting things together, making choices would say that you are in control of the next adventure. I would add that the fact that you are off campus, not in a dorm or sorority is a reflection of the fact that in your new life adventure, you are on your own, not dependent upon any other person or institution.

On the other hand, it could just mean you ate something funky before you went to sleep last night.

I agree, starting something new. Old lessons learned, move on.

It sure beats the dreams I've had in which I am trying to shoplift at Wal-mart - naked!

It's probably more extraordinary to be at wal-mart WITH all of your teeth than it is to be at wal-mart WITHOUT your clothing.

I think the part about you not being prepared in past dreams is from anxiety about not living up to someones expectations, not being good enough to get praise from someone you needed praise from. For the last 10 years you have been pushing back your own thoughts and feelings and that leads to anxiety in real life, so it was spilling over into your dreams in the form of being anxious in school. Now that you are letting yourself feel again and starting to figure out who you are and who you want to be in the future....you are checking out the cute boys and setting up your room. I don't think those cute boys really represent cute boys...I think they represent new opportunity and a fresh start. You are setting up your new room....new life. You are meeting roomates and thinking about classes because you are in real life meeting and surrounding yourself with new people and thinking of the direction you want to go. You aren't on campus cause you just left that stress behind. You don't have the campus in your dream anymore, because the ( ... )
