Many would say that they were just kittens, and probably sick any way and blah blah blah... I know they were anxiously awaited little souls joining your family, even if they were only going to be a part of it for eight weeks. It is a loss for your kids, for you, and for your kitty, and I'm very sad and sorry for you all. We'll all be thinking good, healthy, happy kitten thoughts for the one that remains, and for Inara.
Empathy, sorrow, and the ability to allow yourself to feel a loss without letting it consume you are all skills. Skills that your children are learning right now. How fortunate they are to have you there to hold them, and allow them to cry, and to answer their questions, even when the answer is, "I just don't know". They've seen quite a lot in the last year that the world is not a perfect place, but they've also seen that family (including mom #2 and girl scout sisters) make any blow a little easier to bear.
