SO i will be scatter brained and do this whole stream of consciousness thing. So I went ot DC and NYC (St Patty's Day!) for spring break, and stayed with my former Denmark Aussie neighbor. It was really awesome, because I did not only missed the Dept of Energy Info session to make jello shots, but also met up with my Turkish friend from my Turkey ( Read more... )

Nah, I need to save money. Your comment really doesn't help me decide which offer to take...

well, duh. most of us aren't living with that many options. :-p

so if you split the 2bd place, you only pay 150/mo?! that's psycho.

Being that I know nothing about what you are doing or the two job offers other than what you have written... I'm going to chime in with an opinion anyways.

I think you should work for the Smithsonian, because you'll ahve plenty of time to make your connectins with the UN afterwards and you need to save up money for the trip. Connections are better made earlier, but here, you're not putting it off that much and you'll be able to enjoy your trip a lot more if you have some money.

Just my two cents.

Good luck with your decision.

Haha... Thanks Ketan. I found that the UN one is all expense paid, so I am going for that one instead.

Go for the money! Going to Vienna would be cool and all, but not if it makes it impossible to go wherever the hell you want to the following year. You'll be working hard in whatever place you go to anyway so you won't even have time to screw around too much... so yeah, get the money!

i am going to start off by quoting mark: "you have too many options. lucky bastard." with that said, i think you should do the smithsonian one (because that one pays you) unless you think the UN ones will be difficult to secure in the future. however, an internship in vienna doesn't sound bad either. i will leave it at that since i don't know what you will be actually doing at these internships (in which case i would be able to give you a more informed opinion).

i want to go backpacking too! if i'm still free for some odd reason when you decide to do this, may i accompany you? africa is #1 on my "places to visit before you kick the bucket" list. you can see nature in it's most pristine state and catch all sorts of diseases you've never heard about. neat-o :)
