Thank you. It's an epiphany that is very difficult for an analytic to remember in-process, no matter how many times it proves true, previous. Transition and I have left the station and Panic and are passing through the quaint village of Uneasy. I hope to reach Zen someday, but it's not on the map. We'll see.
You are the teacher I wish I had as a middle-schooler. I've only seen from afar what you do, but I have no problem ascribing the term "master teacher" to you. Yes, it's that obvious. :)
Amazing. I didn't realize the gummint was doing much in the way of teacher re-assigning. Have you seen anything else good come out of the past 8 years, education wise? Glad you're doing ok at the new place, and good luck with the curriculum! and the furniture/key situation!
It's not so much the big G as it is the incentives the big G puts out there in relation to its half-witted legislation. If a teacher certified before said half-witted legislation was enacted doesn't have the certifications created and required some years later, they must not be "highly qualified". If a school doesn't have X% of teachers that are HQ by a bogus standard enacted by the big G, then that school doesn't get certain funding.
I'm not against the HQ aspiration. But the means of measuring it are deeply flawed.
There certainly have been some interesting currents in the field in the past 8 years, though I would be hard-pressed to ascribe them to the trainwreck that is NCLB.
Thanks for the glad-wishes. Hope your end of things is pleasant!
Huh, so no concept of grandfathering people into new systems of assessment, or at least attempting to integrate. Very interesting. That really sucks a lot. And yeah, I was wondering if NCLB had anything to do with it. Man, our educational system kind of scares me. Good on you for sticking with it :)

Hummus is also quite tasty on plain tortilla chips -- which may be found in vending machines in your cafeteria or otherwise nearby. (If I have to choose between a slightly dried-out pita and tortilla chips for my hummus, I'd take the chips, you see
