Summary: Luke and Noah take a walk on the beach… So I was feeling a little down and melancholy the other day and, after listening to Billy Joel’s ‘Time to remember’ this is the result.

‘It feels so good to be outside, just the two of us’ Luke sighed with relief as they walked hand in hand slowly along the beach.

‘Don’t get me wrong Noah… I love our kids… you know I do… but sometimes they drive me crazy!’ It was true, he wouldn’t be without their children for anything; they had given them so many wonderful memories over the years… but now that Matthew and Lisa were grown and had children of their own their roles seem to have been reversed. The kids seemed to worry about so many things where their parents were concerned…could they manage to look after themselves properly… could they manage the stairs at the house… did they eat well, which was why Matthew and his wife were currently in Luke and Noah’s kitchen cooking for them.

Luke turned to face his husband and smiled wryly, ‘you know you’re getting old when your kids talk to you like they’re the parents!’

Noah had to pause before replying, his breath catching in his throat at Luke’s smile. Sure… there were a few more wrinkles and lines than there used to be but that smile and those dimples never… ever failed to stir something within him. He was only old after all, not dead!

‘Tell me about it!’ Noah agreed with a deep chuckle. ‘I feel like a naughty school kid’ he smirked, remembering how Matthew, their eldest son, had slapped his hand away when Noah had reached for the cookie jar; telling him that it would spoil his dinner.

‘But still… I feel bad for sneaking out while they’re cooking for us. Feels like we’re trying to stage some kinda Great Escape’ his smile faded a little.

‘Noah… we’ll be back before they even notice that we’ve gone’ Luke said with a hint of exasperation in his voice, ‘besides it’s hardly a Great Escape more like a Great Shuffle’ his voice softened and a chuckle escaped his lips as he nodded back towards the imprints of their walk across the sand; both pairs of footprints framed by the circular marks of their walking sticks.

The sweet sound of Luke’s laugh was infectious and Noah couldn’t help but chuckle back, nodding in agreement, ‘Yeah… we’re hardly going to make it to the border!’

‘When did we get so old Luke?’ Noah asked as he locked eyes with his husband. It seemed like only yesterday that they had found each other again… when Luke had finally took that flight to LA and Noah had been waiting… and now here they were married, with children and grandchildren. Noah wasn’t going to pretend that their life together had all been plain sailing but he didn’t want to be anywhere else in the world.

‘I have no idea!’ Luke smiled before stretching up to press a gentle kiss to Noah’s lips. He reached out and slid his palm along Noah’s, tenderly stroking the aged and wrinkled skin between his husband’s finger and thumb before linking their fingers together. He didn’t need to ask what his husband was thinking… what thoughts were going on behind those glasses deep in the cornflower hue… he knew well enough because he was feeling them too.

‘Come on let’s walk a bit further … let’s make the most of our little bit of freedom’ Luke murmured, tugging gently on their combined hands and leading them further along the beach…

‘Noah! They’re tearing it down!’ the shock in Luke’s voice made Noah look up sharply as they rounded the dune. His heart sank as he saw the hotel or what was left of the hotel… the hotel that they had come to think of as their hotel… the hotel where they had spent their first night as a married couple and had stayed many times since on their anniversary.

The hotel had been boarded up for years but they had always maintained some glimmer of hope that it would be taken over and restored to its former glory but that was never going to happen now, not seeing as the top two floors had already been demolished.

‘I can’t believe it’ Luke muttered, sinking down onto a bench on the edge of the boardwalk as Noah made his way over to the notice on the side of the security fencing surrounding the hotel.

Noah eased himself down next to Luke after reading the notice. ‘They’re pulling it down to make way for some retirement apartments’, his voice had a dull, hollow ring to it that made Luke turn to face him.

‘We should do something… stop them somehow!’ Luke said with a determined edge to his voice. An edge that Noah recognised with a sigh… it was that determination that had led to more than one heated discussion over the years. It had led Luke to stick to his guns with a dogged belief that he was right… whether it be with Noah… their children and family…or his publisher… or whoever stood in his way. His tenacity was something that Noah loved about Luke; he was never one to give in or admit defeat… but it was also one of the things that drove Noah crazy about his husband.

‘Like what Luke?’ Noah asked, fearing where the answer would take them.

‘Stage a protest or something?’ Luke shrugged, his mind racing to think of something that would help.

‘Don’t you think we’re a bit long in the tooth to be chaining ourselves to wrecking balls and bulldozers?’ Noah struggled to keep the exasperation from his voice.

‘We have to do something Noah!’ Luke’s voice rose in frustration.

Noah reached out and curled his fingers under Luke’s chin, applying gentle pressure to get his husband to look at him. ‘Luke…Baby…let it go. It’s too late. Besides we still have the memories… bricks and mortar isn’t going to change that.’ Noah said calmly but firmly in a voice that Luke recognised meant there would be no point in arguing any more. Luke hadn’t spent decades… the best years of his life… living with Noah without getting to know, just by a look or a touch or the tone of his voice, when enough was enough.

‘You can’t even see ‘our’ room anymore’ Luke’s voice trembled a little as he fought back the tears, his shoulders sagging in defeat. Memories of their first night in that room flooded his mind… overwhelming him…

‘Finally!’ Noah breathed against Luke’s neck; struggling to kiss as much of Luke as he could reach…lips…face…neck and close the hotel room door with his foot at the same time.

The wedding had been perfect and Noah’s heart had swelled with joy and more than a little self - doubting wonder that so many of the Snyders and their friends had made it to the ceremony. It never failed to touch him deeply how everyone had still treated him with love and kindness even when he and Luke weren’t together; a lasting reminder of the legacy of lack of self worth his father had left him with.

But now he was relieved that they were finally alone. He felt the need and want boiling up inside him, a barely controllable primal urge that had been building ever since they had spoken their vows. The way Luke had looked at him when he promised himself to Noah forever, the way his hand had shook when he had slid the ring in place, the way Luke’s lips had caressed his to finally seal the vows had all served to fuel the fire and now he could think of nothing else but being with Luke… of connecting with him in a way that was uniquely theirs and theirs alone.

Clothes were shed in a haphazard and careless path to the bed; first ties then jackets, shirts, shoes, socks until finally…finally Luke lay stretched out, naked on the bed.

‘I love you…so much’ Noah said with such sincerity and such raw emotion that Luke thought his heart would literally burst out of his chest.

He reached forward to curl his long and elegant fingers round Noah’s neck; pulling him down into a deep and passionate, soul searching kiss. He poured every single fibre of his being into that kiss; telling Noah that it was ok… he was here…they were together and nothing would ever change that again.

They pulled apart breathlessly, both overwhelmed by the erotic sensations of their bodies touching, thighs against thighs, chest against chest and the delicious friction of the velvet hardness of their cocks rubbing together.

Luke reached out to cover Noah’s cheek with his palm, the pad of his thumb soothing over prominent cheek bone. ‘I love you too Noah… always have’ he whispered, his voice barely audible.

Noah looked deep into the hazel hue, searching for the permission he needed…wanted. It wasn’t as if this was the first time they had connected like this since they had found their way back to each other but he wanted this night to be perfect.

‘Noah’ Luke breathed out with an almost imperceptible nod and that one word, a desperate and needy combination of plea and demand gave Noah all the permission he needed.

Easing Luke’s legs further apart, Noah gently prepared him one finger at a time, dropping a series of butterfly kisses along the length of Luke’s hard and leaking cock, until Luke was arching his back and pushing down against probing fingers.

‘Need... you…please’ Luke almost begged, his lust blown pupils wide with the intensity of the need.

Noah pushed Luke’s knees further apart and eased himself into Luke’s hot, tight heat, almost sighing with relief at the connection. The knowledge that he was the only one who had ever experienced this with Luke flared in his chest and made him want to touch every part of Luke as if marking his territory.

‘So beautiful Luke…so beautiful. Mine…mine…mine’ Noah repeated again and again, almost like a mantra as he kissed his way up Luke’s torso, rolling and snapping his hips, plunging deeper and harder into Luke with each thrust.

‘Fuck! Yes! Noah…always yours…always’ Luke gasped, curling his ankles around the small of Noah’s back, pulling him in even deeper. He couldn’t help but squeeze his eyes shut and bite down on his bottom lip as the strength of the familiar surge of his building climax threatened to over take him.

He reached down in between their flushed and sweating torsos to wrap around his hard length only to have his hand batted away and be replaced by Noah’s firm grip, twisting and stroking in time to his thrusts.

‘Open your eyes Luke… look at me baby’ Noah demanded as his thrusts became more and more erratic, his own climax building. Luke’s eyes shot open, immediately locking with Noah’s and a look of need, want and complete love and trust passed between them.

‘Come for me Luke. Let go!’ Noah breathed out, leaning forward to capture Luke’s lips in an open mouthed erotic kiss.

Luke’s back arched and his hips jerked off the mattress as he shuddered his climax over Noah’s fist and his stomach, Noah’s name falling from his lips.

The sight of Luke becoming completely undone and the feel of Luke’s muscles tightening around his sensitive cock hurtled him towards his own release and a final thrust had him coming deep inside his husband.

His sore muscles unable to hold him up any longer, Noah collapsed forward, safe in the knowledge that Luke would be there to catch him. Immediately he felt strong arms surround him, holding him close, and Luke pressed tender kisses to his sweat damped hair.

Luke’s fingers curled under Noah’s chin, gently guiding his head upwards. ‘Hey there husband’ the corners of Luke’s mouth lifted in a tender smile, the soft lamplight highlighting the look of pure happiness in his eyes.

‘Husband! I like the sound of that’ Noah replied, the deep chuckle resonating against Luke’s chest.

He stretched up to place a soft kiss to Luke’s full and kiss swollen lips before settling back against Luke’s chest, closing his eyes to let a sated and content sleep take him…

‘There was a time when I didn’t think we’d get there’ the pain and regret that Luke heard in Noah’s deep voice shook him from his memory and he turned slightly on the bench to face his husband.

‘Noah. I…I’m so’ he began, wanting to sooth away that hurt.

He was silenced by the pad of Noah’s thumb brushing across his lips. ‘No Luke. We promised we wouldn’t do that anymore…no more apologies for the past. You weren’t the only one to make mistakes’, he murmured softly before pressing his lips to Luke’s, his fingers tracing the closely shaved remnants of Luke’s hair that had never completely grown back after the cancer scare.

Noah shuddered at the thought of just how close he had come to losing Luke a second time, this time for good and he gave his thanks each and every day that Luke had been strong enough and lucky enough to survive.

Luke linked their fingers together and bought them to his lips, kissing Noah’s arthritic knuckles. ‘It’s ok Baby’ Luke murmured, knowing exactly what his husband was thinking about, ‘I’m still here… you’re not getting rid of me that easily. I’ve got a few more miles left in me yet’ the corner of his mouth lifted in a small smile.

‘Promise?’ Noah asked sincerely, desperate to hold onto the hope that his time with Luke was far from over.

‘Promise’ Luke replied, locking eyes with Noah. Everything around them seemed to fade into the background and it was just them and their memories and thoughts of the time they had left together.

Time stood still for several more moments before the reality of where they were seeped back in and Luke shivered a little against the cold of the winter’s afternoon as the sun started it’s descent in the western sky.

Luke stood slowly on legs that weren’t as quick as they used to be and held his hand out to help Noah up as well. ‘Come on. I seemed to remember you promised me something about buying me a hotdog this morning!’ he chuckled.

‘That was the only way you’d get out of bed!’ Noah smirked as he stretched a little to try and get some life back in his aching bones. ‘Anyway it’ll spoil your dinner!’ he stood with his hands on his hips in imitation of their son, his left eyebrow cocked in amusement.

‘Who cares?! Let’s throw caution to the wind and live a little!’ he smiled back, a mischievous glint in his eye as he tugged on Noah’s hand and led him back down the beach.

The End
