EXPERT'S TIPS: Prank calls
Okay, let's face it. I'm an expert in a lots of various things and I thought that I'd share my knowledge with others.
Prank calls have always been one of my specialities because I have studied them since I was a little kid. I just dialed a random number and hoped that someone answered. Then I usually asked something really stupid in a very serious and childish tone.
STEP #01: Come up with an idea
The more ridiculous, the better! Like a salesman that's selling something really stupid or someone who's asking really stupid questions. Stupid is good, remember. Then you gotta come up with a voice. Don't use your own speaking voice, especially if the person you are calling is someone you know! Develop the character and learn all about it. Make up all the details about your character before the call.
STEP #02: Call the right person
It's prefered that you don't know anything about the person in the phone so do as I do: just dial the right amount of some random numbers and wait. In big countries it usually works. Or if you want to call someone specific, just do it. But remember, always write the number down. You just might need it!
STEP #03: Block your number from showing
This is very important! You don't wanna get caught, right? I, myself, call from my cellphone because it has a very easy number-blocking system. And trust me, you don't want the people calling you back!
STEP #04: Dont laugh!
That's important. Try to keep your character, whether it's some wacky and screaming psycho or smooth and calm guy. If you laugh, they know it's prank immidiately. So do not beak the character.
STEP #05: Prepare everything
The preparing is fun. More little details means more convincing phone call. Like this one time when I and my two friends called one girl and we pretended to be from a sex shop. We set up some quiet sex shop-esque music and wrote down some details on the paper. We thought of all the questions she might ask and we wrote down the answers on the paper. Then when the time to make the call came, we played the music and I did the talking. I had a really teeny-weeny and annoying nasal voice. I said "the leather lingerie and the whip you ordered just arrived! You may now come and pick them up. How would you like to pay?" She just kept hanging up and saying "I think you've got the wrong number" but we just kept calling and tried to assure her that it was the right number. It was great.
STEP #06: The Call
This is the moment! Keep your cool. Whatever the person on the phone asks, anwer as your character. Don't break, don't laugh, just keep calm. But do not talk about drugs, killing or anything illegal! They may have superpowers and they just might get your number and call the cops on you! If he or she hangs up, learn how to deal with it in the next step.
STEP #07: Don't give up!
If the person you're calling just hung up, don't worry! Call again. Say something like "I'm terribly sorry but I think that the line disconnected all by itself!". Just make him or her believe that you are what you claim to be and continue your stuff. Do not stop calling until the person threats you or is really mad and orders you to stop.
VARIATIONS OF PRANK CALLS
There's a few. Like if you don't want to call anyone specific, take some 1-800 (that means it's free of charge to call there)-number and call. Usually that kind of numbers are some hotlines for companies. It's fun to ask stuff from them. For example, I've called my cellphone operator's customer sercive numerous times. I've asked just about anything, like "what's the most popular car brand?" and "what's 'six' in Latin?". They know a lot of stuff and are always kind.
One other vatiation is a "reverse prank call". That usually works with phone salesmen. It works like following: they call you, you answer. After they've said something to you, you start talking something your own, preferably random stuff. Ask something like "what do you think, should I read this book?" and read some excerpts of any book. Just keep the guy listening and do not let him or her speak. Most of them listen but some get tired and hang up. Either way, it's a win-win!
