I meant to comment on this earlier today but lost track of time. Apologies for unfashionably late response.

Because I loved this! I really, really loved this. You've absolutely nailed Mitchell, his voice, and his personal conflict of being horrified by what he has become and both his inability to change it and his more-than-occasional detached lack of interest in changing.

I always absolutely love the Mitchell & Herrick flashback scenes in the show, and this really captures their moment-in-time, snapshot, distant feel, very intangible but it matches the atmosphere of the canon.

And speaking as someone whose favourite character is Herrick, even though he doesn't feature heavily, you write him nicely and I applaud you for that, too :)

(Also just finished Tempo Rubato, which I loved just as much and for just the same reasons, especially the ending, which is just terrific.)

Can't wait to see more!

Thank you so much! Mitchell is my favorite character to write just because he has so many angles, and something attracts me, in particular, to the heady abandon of his days with Herrick. Because I think he did have fun, no matter what he says ;)

I absolutely agree, I think he had more fun than he likes to admit (although I suppose if he admitted he liked it he would drive George and Annie away).
