CHARACTER NAME: Jessie
FANDOM: Toy Story
CHRONOLOGY: Right before the events of the third movie to avoid spoilers~
CLASS: Hero
SUPERHERO NAME: The Yodeling Cowgirl
ALTER EGO: Jessie

BACKGROUND:
Back in the 1950s, a show called Woody's Roundup took the world of children's television programs by storm. The show was cast entirely of puppets: there was the titular character, Woody; his trusty steed, Bullseye; the yodeling cowgirl, Jessie; and the token comic relief, Stinky Pete...otherwise known as the Prospector. And like most popular television shows aimed towards children, there was a massive movement of merchandise that circulated around the program. There were collectible plates, tin banks, lunch boxes, posters, spoons, bubble makers, and of course, toys based off the characters in the show. The show was canceled after children showed an interest in spacemen, and lost interest in cowboys and cowgirls.

Jessie was one of these toys sold during the phenomenon, and her box was picked up and opened by a young fan of the show named Emily, who owned a lot of merchandise made in Jessie's image. And, as most children often do, Emily fell in love with her Jessie doll. And, as most toys often do, Jessie fell in love with her kid. The two of them became fast friends, Jessie becoming Emily's favourite toy and best friend, and they did everything together. Jessie had been there for Emily through the thick and the thin of her childhood, offering comfort and solace in the only way a toy can.

The redhaired doll believed that this friendship would last forever, that her and Emily would continue to have adventures. Unfortunately, like most good things, it had to come to an end. It started when Emily discovered boys, and started playing with new toys she called, make up. During on of her nail painting sessions with friends, Jessie was accidentally knocked under the bed, and remained there throughout the years of Emily's growing up. The room changed. No longer did Emily wear her usual cowgirl hat and getup, she wore nicer things. All the Woody's Roundup merchandise soon became dust collectors under the bed, replaced with make up and dance posters. Still, Jessie waited under the bed throughout the years, hopeful that Emily would one day remember all the good times they spent together, and she would once again be played with and be the center of Emily's world.

Well, Jessie was found, but the spark the doll and Emily had was no more, and after a long, hopeful car ride to a place Jessie and Emily used to play together, the cowgirl doll was dumped in a donations box, along with the rest of the old merchandise.

She went from box to box, until she came under the ownership of an avid Woody's Roundup collector named Al, and was kept in storage along with two other members of the Roundup Gang. Bullseye the stuffed horse, and Prospector Pete, a doll left mint condition in his box. She doesn't know how long she had been kept in storage, all she knew that it was dark and she hated being moved around. But one hopeful day, Al had been getting all the merchandise together for something big, and Jessie and the other two toys heard him talk about how he finally found the last of the Roundup Gang.

So here's where Jessie's role in the second movie comes in. At first, she's overjoyed to finally meet Woody, and she's happy to finally be out of storage and on her way to Tokyo, Japan. However, that happiness is short lived when her and the rest of the gang realize that Woody has himself an owner, and plans on returning to him. She then becomes rather spiteful towards Woody, and the two end up having a rather rocky relationship during the first half of Woody's stay when he's trying to escape and head back home. After Woody's fixed up and ready to leave, he goes to talk to her for one last time in an attempt to make amends, and that's when Jessie tells him of her heartache of losing a beloved friend. Hearing this, and being persuaded by Pete, Woody decides to stay and be packaged with the rest of the group to Tokyo, and Jessie has a change of heart about the cowboy. The two immediately begin to form a sort of brother-sister relationship, and while waiting to be packed up and shipped off, the gang has some fun fooling around before their long flight.

It's then that Woody's friends literally come crashing in, and after a struggle and some words, we learn that Woody plans on staying with Jessie, Bullseye, and Stinky Pete, but then has a change of heart and asks the three of them to join him and the rest of Andy's toys. Jessie and Bullseye are thrilled about this idea, but Pete has other plans. They discover that Pete's able to get out of his box, and he locks their only exit. They have no choice but to be packed up and head to the airport with Pete, but the rest of Andy's toys have a rescue mission in mind, and follow them to the airport. There, Pete is taken care of, and Bullseye is able to escape. Jessie, however, is not able to make it out of the packaging in time, and finds herself trapped on the plane. Luckily, Woody comes to save her, and after a daring escape, the two of them are intercepted by Bullseye and Buzz, and they head home.

Jessie and Bullseye are made honorary members of the toy family, and they become featured in Andy's playtime shenanigans. However, time goes by, old toys are sold, and soon, Jessie and the rest of the toys are placed in Andy's toybox, rarely seeing the light of day. They try everything in a toy's power to get Andy to play with them, but at the age of seventeen, he just doesn't seem to show an interest in any of them anymore.

PERSONALITY:
Jessie, like most toys based off television shows, takes on the personality of her television counterpart. She's a friendly, loyal, critter-lovin' cowgirl who loves to show off her powerful vocal chords...if toys had vocal chords. Not being the sort to allow herself out of the action, Jessie is the kind of gal who puts herself in the middle of everything, and she puts her all into everything she does. She's emotional, wearing everything she feels right on her sleeve. When she's excited, the girl's practically jumping out of her boots, and acts like a bundle full of hyperactive energy just waiting to spring. She can also let the emotions get the best of her, and can get to be rather hotheaded and stubborn. Of the toys in Andy's room, Jessie could be considered one of the bravest of the bunch, and the most easily excitable. In fact, from an outsider's perspective, she could seem like a bright ball of sunshine with a happy outlook on life.

But those who know her better, and those who know her story, know that she isn't all rainbows and smiles. She has a rather traumatic past for a toy, having being donated by her kid. She has issues with being left alone, especially in the dark, and the thought of having to be stuck in a box, away from the sunlight and air, can send her into a claustrophobic  panic, complete with hyperventilating and an unwillingness to cooperate. Even now, after years of being loved once again by a kid, being stuck in an enclosed space and the dark is a big fear of hers. She has abandonment issues, and that bitterness stuck with her, though she's pushed it far, faaaaar back now having been a part of Andy's toy family. But, at times she can prove to be a bit withdrawn and distrustful, but that too has nearly disappeared.

With Andy heading off to college and sticking his toys in his old toy box, Jessie's jaded side have begun to show through, though she still remains hopeful and keeps her cheerful, excitable personality. In fact, despite not wanting another Emily situation all over again, this time around she'll be able let go a lot easier than before. She's loyal and friendly to her close friends. And she knows that, even if Andy does abandon her like Emily did, she at least has her friends to keep her company. And this is what gives her hope, and keeps her happy and amiable. She's a likable individual, and a loyal toy until the end.

POWER:
I'm a Real Boy Girl! : She'll start her journey in the City as a human, like most non-human characters who are 'ported in to the City. However, she'll soon find out that she can shift from her fleshy human form to her cuddly toy form whenever she wants...when she figures out how to control it, of course. As a result, she'll be able to communicate with other toys when she's in her toy form, and when she goes into that stationary mode all toys are capable of, she'll be practically immune to most pain in such form.

Yodel : Jessie's known far and wide for her yodeling...well, all of the toys in Andy's room are well aware of her strong lungs, at least. Much like the Jessie in the old TV show and the Jessie we see at the start of the third movie, the yodeling cowgirl is able to call upon the help of some animal friends with a really powerful, nearly super sonic yodel (within a five mile radius). She's also able to communicate with the animals who show up to help.

It should also be noted that Jessie is also rather athletic and agile in her doll form, able to do flips and jumps. This carries over to her human form, as well.

[CHARACTER SAMPLES]
COMMUNITY POST (FIRST PERSON) SAMPLE:
[The video feed starts off with an INTENSE CLOSE UP of a woman's face. Specifically, her wide green eyes, which are overflowing with some strange mix of wonder, excitement, and worry. The feed shakes as the face pulls away, and the viewer can catch a glimpse of braided red hair and a bright red cowgirl hat...before the subject begins to poke the screen rapidly, creating a loud thumping noise.]

Wooo-wee if this ain't one strange contraption. What is it, some kinda video camera or somethin'?

[The feed wiggles and the world becomes upside down and rightside up, and upside down yet again as the holder appears to be examining it.]

I reckon it's not a toy...aw heck, maybe it'll help me figure out what in tarnation's goin' on around here! This isn't Andy's room...

[So Jessie's attempting to hold the camera up to her face, and the viewer can now get a better view of her...of course, the feed's upside down, but if you turn your communicator around you'd get a good look at the upper part of her body. It's Jessie alright...a rather human Jessie. She's wearing her hat, her hair is as red as ever (though no longer yarn), and you can see the folded collar over the yellow top of her shirt. Despite the lost look in her green eyes, she's managing a bright, friendly grin.]

Well howdy folks on the other end of this here contraption! [a pause, and a somewhat awkward, lost laugh] ...if there is anyone on the other line. This is like some kinda fancy phone, right? I sure hope so 'cause I'm looking for help and I...

Well, y'see, I'm not made to be on my own in a city. And I'm not made to be like...this. Though, I have to admit this whole look is spiffy and all...I can't go home lookin' like this!

[She tugs on her hair. Her confidence is somewhat waning now.]

I'd...like to know how to get back. Please. My friends...well...I'm sure Woody an' Buzz are doing just fine, and the others but...Bullseye can get awful lonesome without me and I just don't wanna keep him waiting for long!

And...what if Andy decides to...

[The feed cuts here.]

LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:
As much as she hated being away from what she now, after years of living with Andy and his toys, considered home, Jessie had to like one thing about this place: that she was free to do whatever she liked. No longer was she stuck in the dark, battling claustrophobia and the fear that she'd never see the light of day again. She was out in the open, able to soak up the sunlight whenever she wanted to, and this made all the tension of being in a strange place disappear for a few seconds. Knowing that she had full control of where she wanted to go (in this dimension), and the fact that she didn't have to freeze up and play toy whenever a human walked by relieved her of some of the difficulties her toy self used to face. There was no fear of being forgotten at the bottom of a toy box, no trouble getting from place to place...

Man, being a human sure was easy. Having everything being your size for once.

Jessie stretches, removing her cowgirl hat to rub her head as she leans forward on the bench. She was sitting in the park, watching the kids play around on a nearby playground. After a day of running around with a bundle full of energy wrapped tightly around your heart like a pull string, sometimes, a toy just has to unwind some of her threading and watch a kid play.

Which is...the major problem she saw with being a human. Nothing beat the love of a child, nothing. To a toy, a kid means the world to them. Heck, the kid is the world to them. It's been so long since she'd been held...every now and then the toy box had been opened, contents shifted around as Andy's hand brushed by her to grab something to throw in the trash, or in a box to be sold at the garage sale. But she hadn't been held, nor played with in a long time.

Of course, having been the only one in the toy box to have been in storage for long spans of time, she should be used to it. But nope, she reckoned she'd never be used to it. At least this time it wasn't just her and Bullseye. She was stuck in that box along with her good friend Woody, his good friend Buzz, and the rest of the gang whom she grew to know and love like family.

A kid screams, and always alert to helping critter and kid alike in need, Jessie jumps up and tugs her hat on, looking for the source of the scream. But the screaming subsides as soon as it happens. The little girl just fell off a swing, and her mother had rushed over to comfort her. Jessie saw the young girl rub her eyes, pick herself up, and grab hold of a large stuffed dog her mother brought over, immediately relieving her of her skinned knees. The kid runs off with her dog to play on a bouncing bridge, and Jessie watches her, a cheerful grin on her face and a hand on her hip.

It wasn't like her to think about all the rotten things a toy had to go through when their kid was growing up. Heck, it shouldn't have to be that way. Sure, Andy was growing up and acting all jaded about his childhood toys, but that didn't mean Jessie had to get all down in the dumps about it now. She was here, in the city with a pretty uncreative name, but aw heck it was something new!

Maybe all this place needed was somebody who could make the civilians of the city happy. And who better to do that than a toy with experience.
