I feel as though the English major should be viewed more as a social science major than an art major. It is true that English majors must work through thematic elements and deconstruct plots in order to derive meaning, but more than that English majors are responsible for knowing the history of author's, time periods and movements. i agree. i never thought of english as falling into the art major category. and english is no joke! i would rather study every genetic compound of he body than read and analyze a shakespeare novel, mostly because social sciences such as psychology or analyzing a meaning in a book can be so subjective. my brain cant work with opinion, i need facts. which is why i admire you more for loving your english major. remember that as you see some loser frat guy whos a "communications" major. hes a fucking joke!

Thank you, Jwal. i think the sciences are vastly important, but it has always really bothered me that English, as a major, gets so much shit when it is so invaluable.
