Dear :
I am seeking representation for my contemporary
fantasy novel, The Phoenix Contract, complete at 100,000 words. I am
enclosing a synopsis and a sample chapter. A second free-standing book
featuring the same primary character is in outline form.
I love stories about the supernatural and the occult
- those things that go bump in the night. However, werewolves and vampires have
been overdone. The Phoenix Contract gives the genre a fresh take, exploring the
world of the Nephilim, the mortal descendants of fallen angels.
Aiden is an intelligent young woman with a mysterious
heritage and a daunting destiny; Matthew is a loveable priest with a silver
tongue that regularly issues compulsive lies. The pair share a strong bond as
daughter and father, but Aiden is about to lose everything she knows and loves.
Her past is revealed to be a lie, her friends are murdered, and finally she is
forced to kill Matthew in order to save his soul and her own life. Pushed to
the brink, Aiden discovers a tough, resourceful aspect of her own nature. As
she tells one of the men chasing her, ramming a .45 into his gut, “Smart boy.
I’m betting that you’ve already seen the bodies back there, so you know that I
can and will kill. Now I’m a lot shorter than you, so at this range I’ll be
blowing off something a lot lower than your head. To quote my favorite pirate,
savvy?” Seizing the initiative, Aiden plunges into danger, intrigue, and
adventure, pursuing an increasingly complex mystery to its fiery conclusion.
I have five years of professional experience as a
technical writer, and a lifetime of enthusiasm for the fantasy genre. Thank you
for your consideration of this proposal. I am looking forward to hearing from
you soon.
Sincerely,
